Some strengths of my research is that I analysed real magazines and went
into to detail where I discussed the position of the artist, the camera shot and
angle that has been used and the lighting. I also discussed the common
conventions that are used within this genre so that it would help me with my
work so that I knew what to include and what not to include and so that I can
make my magazine stick to the conventions. A strength of my work is that I
have been able to use my knowledge and skill to identify the conventions
used. I think a weakness is that I could have talked about the audience more
within my research however I was more focused on the production. I think an
improvement to my work could be to talk more about the cover lines that
have been used and talk about the font. I have used a very ordinary font and
further experimentation I would try to use some of the urban art fonts and
specialist fonts. Going forward I would think carefully about how I layout my
magazine as I have realized that this makes a big difference on how your
magazine looks

3. Planning
Some strengths of my planning was that I thought of different magazines
genres that I was interested in doing and I mind mapped these ideas and
spoke about the purpose of the magazine, who the target audience would be
and what conventions were used within this genre. My planning helped y
product because it meant when I came to make my magazine I know who my
target audience is and i also know how to attract this audience such as
including a main image of a well known artist. I think a weakness of my
planning was my mood board and to improve this i should write next to some
of the images I have chosen for my mood board and say what I liked about
the magazines an what I didn’t. This would help me have a better
understanding towards magazines and I would be able to see clearly what
like with hip-hop magazines within this genre and what i don’t

4. Time Management
I managed my time reasonably well in my opinion. We missed a couple of
lessons due to open days which set me back for my planning and research
however with the time that I had available I managed to complete al the tasks
within the time I received. If I had additional time I would try and book more
time in the studio so that I am able to take more photos and experiment using
different lighting and different camera techniques using different modes so
that I am able too se what works best. If I had more time to produce my work
I would have experimented and produced different photos that I have taken
and I would have liked to experimented using different colour schemes

5. Technical Qualities
One similarity you can notice straight away is that
both magazines have a large bold masthead in a
simple text that stands out so it can easily be read
by the consumer
Both magazines have a
similar color scheme of
gray, black and red
however a difference is
with the vibe magazine
they also use the color
yellow to make certain
words stand out and the
color yellow makes
these stand out due to
the darkish color
scheme then there is
this bright yellow
A difference is with my cover lines I have only
stuck to one color unlike the vibe magazine where
they have black ad red.

side with the date

magazine came out

6. Technical Qualities
One main similarity
between both of
these magazines is

different compared to the
one that i have created

7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think the color scheme on my
magazine is aesthetically pleasing
as it goes well and the colors are
complementary colors. Sticking to
these 3 colors black white and gray
makes the magazine look efficient
whilst remaining simple at the
same time
This photo of the artist looks good
because I have taken a medium
close up shot which allows us to
see the artists facial expression
clearly as well as seeing what the
artist is wearing
The masthead looks like a
conventional hip-hop / rap
magazine masthead because
the text is bold which means
it can be seen at a distance
and the font is very eye
catching which will help to
attract the audience
I like the cover lines here and
the way that they go behind
the artist however they can
still be easily read by the
consumer
I think a improvement
that I could have made
would be to edit the main
image and experiment
with different hue /
saturation and other
photo effects
As well with the masthead I
like how it has been layered
and the artist is in front of
the masthead however the
audience can still red it and
know the brand of the
magazine. I think this looks
well and is aesthetically
pleasing

8. Aesthetic Qualities
With my magazine double page
spread I think it looks good how it
is simple because first of all this is
conventional in rap magazines
and it looks good in general
because the page isn’t flooded
with information
I think a strength of my work
is the text at the top as have
used different font and I used
different font sizes. I think this
is a strength because it makes
these headings stand out o
the audience and it catches
the consumers attention
straight away
I think an improvement I
could make is experiment
with different colors and
see what color scheme
would work well instead of
just sticking to black and
white
I think the visual of the
artist as the main image
works well because it is
sized up well and can
easily be seen by the
consumer and when
they're flicking through
the pages and see this
image it will attract their
attention
I think the quote at the bottom of
the page looks good because it is
white with a black stroke to make
it stand out to the audience

9. Audience Appeal
Exclusive interview is a way in
which I have appealed to my
target audience because this
shows the consumer that this
interview is exclusive to this
magazine and cant be found
anywhere else so they will
have to purchase this
magazine in order to read it
The image of the artist Lil Cartex
appeals to the audience because
they will be interested in the
magazine immediately if they are
already a fan of lil cartex. I have
also used a medium close up shot
for my magazine to appeal to the
audience as this means that they
can see the artist clearly as well
as seeing what they're wearing
so even if the consumer doesn't’t
recognize them straight away
they might recognize the artists
style
The main cover lines at the bottom
are in bold text with a black outline
then I used the red text as well so
that this would stand out to the
audience and can easily be seen
The masthead will attract rap
fans as the text is bold can
easily be seen from a distance
which means when someone is
looking at this magazine they
will be able to read it from a
distance and this will attract
their attention
If the magazine is a award
winning magazine then this
means the audience are more
likely to purchase the
product. I have placed this at
the top of the page so that
when the magazine is stacked
on the shelf and if there is
other magazines infront of it
the “voted best rap magazine
in 2018” will still stand out

10. Audience Appeal
The font of the heading
is very big bold and back
which will help it stand
out and as the consumer
is flicking through the
magazine when they see
the text that says lil
cartex and this will catch
their eye and make the
consumer want to read
the article
The youngest rapper
of 2019 will attract my
audience in because
my magazine is aimed
at young teenagers so
they will feel like they
can relate as they are
at a similar age
The main image of lil cartex
appeals to the audience
because then the audience
ten know who the article is
about and can visualize it
better. As well as this if the
consumer is flicking through
the pages and sees the photo
of the artist they will
recognize him and then went
to know more about the
article
The quotation appeals to
the the audience because it
is interesting and will make
the consumer want to find
out more about lil cartex
The interview that I wrote about lil cartex will
appeal to my audience because my target
audience are hip-hop / rap fans and this will
appeal to them as they will be able to read
about lil cartex and find out more about the
artist himself
