1. BRAND GUIDELINES
LIBERTY KAVANAGH
▸A set of rules that explain how your brand works. These guidelines typically include basic
information such as: An overview of your brand's history, vision, personality and key values.
2. COLOUR
My colour scheme and the main house style colour I used to represent my magazine is the colour
orange, which I kept very prominent throughout all the pages on my magazine. The front cover
displayed this theme with a model on a black background with an orange gel being used over her
face which I created during my photo-shoot. In addition I had the ‘ADDition’ printed in orange as well
as some parts of my cover lines highlighting they are the most important parts.
My contents page was very similar, having the same orange print in the title of ‘coNTENts’ and
images with hints of an orange tone on them, created my gels or a filter on top. In addition all my
main title text was printed in orange as well. Furthermore I carried on using the orange gels and
colours onto my article pages additionally.
I believe orange was a good colour to choose as it is uni-sex meaning it will appeal and attract to
both genders, and has connotations of enthusiasm, happiness, creativity, attraction and success,
which are all factors I was to portray on each of my pages therefore orange seemed to be a suitable
and effective colour.
Using it throughout my magazine was effective because it shows a consistency and makes my
magazine reconcilable on a shelf because its so bright and vibrant.
3. TONE OF MY MAGAZINE
When creating my magazine I decided the tone of my magazine shouldn't be too serious, but should
however still be slick and professional looking. The reasons being I didn’t want it to be too formal was I didn't
want my audience not to connect and relate with the artists I featured therefore I made sure I included
humour to make it more fun and entertaining to read. I decided to write a write a relaxed interview with my
artist Bethany Carrad so the audience felt calm and comfortable reading it, so they would enjoy reading my
magazine for fun in their leisure time, in addition having it more relaxed and humorous made it easier for my
readers to relate and identify with my artist featured. Concluding my magazine would look professional,
realistic and slick, but however still have a warm, humorous and welcoming tone to readers to make sure
they enjoy reading and find it entertaining.
CONTENTS PAGE
When creating my contents page I made sure I kept consistent fonts, to make sure my magazine was
appealing and professional looking, I made sure I did this when I created paragraph styles for them.
For example; The Article and Section titles was always in ‘Durea Condensed’ which was a smart easily
readable font which I font on DaFont. In addition I also made sure these were written in my consistent
orange colour I have used throughout my magazine to make it bright vivid and recognisable. Lastly, I used
a smaller font which is ‘Calibri’ as the article summary because it was more simplistic but easily readable
therefore effective.
