A and An are used When?
1. Before a noun that is introduced for the first time in speech or
writing.
>> I will tell you about an officer in the Indian army.
2. Before a noun which represents not an individual person or thing,
but an instance of a whole class.
>> A doctor must have a lot of compassion.
3. To indicate a numeral one…
>> I gave him a rupee.
4. When the speaker does not know about a person.
>> Father went to the market with a Ganpatrao Buchnale.
5. My daughter is a Lata Mangeshkar. (An excellent singer)
DEFINITE ARTICLE
The
It appears before both singular and plural nouns to refer to
the person or thing they represent in a specific way.
The is pronounced as द when it appears before a noun that begins with a consonant
sound and pronounced as दी when it comes before a noun that begins with a vowel
sound. (The court / The army)
