• Sentence structure is the order of all
the parts in a sentence: subject, verb,
objects, phrases, punctuation, etc
What is a sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that
express a complete thought. In English, a
simple sentence is made up of a subject +
a verb + any complement (possibly an
object or prepositional phrase).
2. PARTS OF SPEECH
In English, there are eight different
parts of speech: nouns, pronouns,
adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions,
conjunctions and interjections. They are
divided into two classes: Open class, and
closed class.
5. WHAT IS A NOUN?

Examples: fireman – Ali - Sally - Cairo – Mansoura - cat –
– house – pencil –– creativity - nobility.
A noun names a person, place, thing, or idea.
They can act as the subject or the object of a
sentence.

1. Mark and Jennifer have a son.
2. There are many people in this classroom who
are missing assignments.
3. I am ready for the picnic.
4. The man in the mirror was no one but

7. WHAT IS A VERB?
A verb conveys action, a state of being, or
existence.
Examples: walk – go – sing – are – sleep.
Action verbs express action, something
that a person, animal or thing can do.

9. ADJECTIVE
Adjectives are words that describe or
modify another person or thing in the
sentence.
Adjectives are descriptive words. An
Adjective describes nouns and pronouns.
Examples: beautiful – green – angry –
necessary.

11. ADVERBS
Adverbs are words that modify
*a verb (He drove slowly.)
*an adjective (He drove a very fast car.)
*another adverb (She moved quite slowly.)
Examples: cheerfully – wickedly – delicately – fast – never –
now.
Tells you when, where, how, in what manner or to what
extent an action is performed
some adverbs can be identified by their characteristic "ly"
suffix

13. Determiner
A determiner is a word placed in front of a
noun to specify quantity (e.g., "one dog,"
"many dogs") or to clarify what the noun
refers to (e.g., "my dog," "that dog,"
"the dog").
