UCAS Personal Statement for Creative Media Course
1. UCAS Personal Statement
I would like to apply for a creative media course for university, as I believe it will help give me
the skills I need for a job I want in the future. I feel like surrounding myself around skilled
people on the course will help me improve as well, with their skills spurring me on to develop
and improve upon the techniques and creativity that I have demonstrated in my current study.
University will also give me the knowledge and experience that I will need for achieving a career
in the media sector.
At GCSE level, Computer Science and Creative iMedia helped develop my passion for digital
based media. Doing Computer Science was useful because it helped me become more involved
with the media industry. One project I did was game development, which helped teach me art
design when creating video games. Creative iMedia helped develop my skills with media
production, some projects we did were developing a website which taught me the basics of
adobe products which are used regularly when creating anything in the media industry. We also
learned how to use cameras when doing photoshoots for magazines, which gave me a
headstart for filmmaking in Creative Media at York College. iMedia also gave me the desire to
pursue a career involving Media.
My current study of an Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology has
helped me learn and prepare for a variety of different aspects of my future course at university.
Each unit required me to produce a practical product as well as research the topic, plan the
production and evaluate my abilities once complete. For the productions I produced a music
video, podcasts, magazine pages and video game animations.
The music video first helped me develop my skills with a camera and editing software. Audio
helped introduce me to foley and basic editing skills for audio. My magazine project helped me
improve my editing for still images and improve my photography skills. Finally, my video game
animations helped me learn to create products purely digitally and key frame motion. To
produce these products I had to learn and employ the Adobe Creative suite, including
Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Audition. During my second year at college I would like to focus
more on film editing and animation as they are two sections of media that I am very passionate
about and would like to improve for the future. I am also doing a theory project on ‘How
American animated shows like Rick and Morty are produced’ as this will help me research
further into the animation industry and expand my knowledge which will be helpful for the
future.
In the future I would like to become an editor. University would help me significantly as it
would give me the opportunity to achieve a degree which will be essential for any potential
jobs in the future. Years of good experience will grant me to improve every aspect of what I
want to do. I want to create a strong portfolio of work to help me get a good job in the media
career path I want.
2. The main activity I do outside of college that will help me in my career is editing videos for
social media. This adds further experience with editing software and honing my skills each time
I practice. This will make me a better candidate for university because I already practice what I
would like to do in my free time, meaning I will be willing to invest a lot of time into any
projects given to me.
I would like to go to university because of the experience I would get from many talented
people. The opportunity to develop and produce a portfolio and expand on my CV at the same
time will also be invaluable. I think I would be a good candidate because I am very good at
investing lots of time into my studies and I have a strong desire to achieve a high standard.
