Existing Products Research
• Millennium Falcon [ASMR]
-No voices, just sounds that the ship makes included.
-Diegetic sounds used that both you and the person in the ship can hear
-An eerie tone is created through the lack of music and constant beeping and smoke
ambience.
-The sound of the ship makes you know what is happening just through the noises in
the clip.
Overall, the sounds are used to create a sci-fi setting and make the person listening
feel like they are on a ship using the sounds alone.
Existing Products Research
• Doctor Who
– The majority of the clip is dialog based audio.
– The sound effects and music are very quite as to make the dialog the primary
focus of the clip.
– Music is used to set an intimidating scene for the people listening.
Overall, the audio clip is heavily story based, ignoring most sound effects to focus
on the dialog.
Existing Products Research
• Beach Soundscape
– There is no dialog and the focus is completely on the sounds that can be
heard.
– Each sound adds the feeling of being at the beach.
– The only thing focused on in the audio clip is to make the person listening feel
like they are at the beach.
Overall, this clip was created to create a setting over telling a story, which is done
through the ambience of each sound in the clip.

Ideas
Story – Idea 1
• Peuchen(Folk Tale) – This mythical creature would paralyze it’s victims by staring
into their eyes so it can drain their bodies of blood. The only people that can
defeat the Peuchen are called Machi(medicine women).
• Using this knowledge from this tale I could create my own story involving the
encounter of a Peuchen and create the scenario in someone's head using audio.
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
Peuchen Folk Tale
Since the story only tells of what
the creature can do, I can create
my own tale of an encounter
with a Peuchen
I need to make sure I use
influence from the original
folk tale so I can make the
story more compelling easier.
I will write the script in the
perspective of the person
captured so I can make the
Peuchens capabilities
scarier.
Proposal
Working Title:
Encounter with the Peuchen
Project Concept:
I am going to create a short story about someone's experience with this creature. This story can be adjusted to
make the best story possible as long as I stay true to what the creature does and it’s actions. I can use other
sound effects during telling the story to increase the amount of horror in the story. During research I learned
about how the Peuchen would kill its victims and a description of what people think it would look like. The story
will follow what people would describe an encounter and how they could be stopped, and since the details in
the lore are quite gruesome, it can make a very good horror story.
Audience:
My target audience for my short audio story will be for young adults. This is because my story will be very dark
as it will be very specific about what happens to a person when encountering a Peuchen, making it not good
for children, but I believe it will be interesting for young adults. My short story would be marketed towards
both genders as there is no aspect of the story that would interest one gender more than the other so it would
be targeted to both.
Experiments
Foley
• Include your work on foley and some writing about what went well, what could be better and what you
have learned.
-I believe I recorded most of the sounds that were needed in this shot which made it fairly successful.
-One way I could have improved my foley project is to improve some of the clips that were taken, this is
because there was sometimes background audio along with the primary auditory needed which
worsened the overall quality.
-I learned to give a better analysis for anything that needs foley as there were many more sounds than I
expected to be. I also learned I need to listen for any background noises before recording.
https://youtu.be/G5KqIMFh_FA
Recording
• Write about your experiences of recording in different places.
- Overall, recording inside was much easier than outside, there were many problems involving recording
outside.
- One issue outside was wind, this is because it was very loud which severely impacted the sounds made
outside.
- If you want to record in a public area, it can cause difficulty if other people are around as they will create
noise.
• What effect did it have? How will this influence your project?
- I was able to cut out some of the noise created through the wind with the final piece which improved
the project in the end.
- I don’t believe this had a major impact on my final project as I was able to either alter or re-record any
bad audio clips, which helped me improve it in the end.

Planning
Script Draft 1
This is a story about how I encountered the mythical creature the Peuchen, feared by all in Chile where stories
are told of the monster and how it lures and kills its victims. This is my encounter with the Peuchen.
*Rustling of leaves*
I was walking in the woods *footsteps* and a surge of panic filled my body. But from what, I would later find
out. I kept walking despite every bone in my body urging to turn away*heavy heartbeat*, everything was
normal until I hear heavy rustling coming from the bush to my left *rustling of leaves in the left ear*. I turn,
panicked and flustered *heavy breathing*, only to see a small rabbit. My heart instantly settles once seeing
this innocent creature. I continue walking looking at the rabbit, the fear I once had gone.
I could have blinked and missed it… *Thunder Crash*
I white flash appeared before me, in the rabbits place was a being of unimaginable horror. A massive serpent
flying above the ground, towering over me. I stumble to the ground, trembling in fear, unable to move as the
fear consumes me.
It’s gaze was consuming me, I had me trapped with it’s demonic stare, paralysed, I was stuck… Hopeless. Then,
it’s cold eyes flash ** and I began to feel weak, it was draining my blood, destroying me… Slowly, it almost
seemed to enjoy my agony.
His gaze was finally going to consume me, a white light approached me as a felt weightless*sharp ringing
noise*, I knew this was the end for me...
Script Draft 2
I could feel myself drifting away from reality, from life… But then, it stopped. I woke up being rushed away
*four people marching* by four people carrying me on a stretcher, I was unable to identify them as my vision
was blurry. I looked back, how did the monster not kill me? I turn and see two women that I could only assume
to be the Machi, these heroic medicine woman saved my life.

Sound Effects
Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound
Sharp ringing noise I have collected the sound from the internet as there
is no way to manually create this noise.
Footsteps (4x)
Footsteps (1x)
I will create this myself and use different sections of
the clip to make it sound like there are four people.
Heavy Breathing I will create the sound by using someone else to
breathe into the recorder.
Heavy Heartbeat I will create this sound by having someone knock on
wood to create a similar and louder sound to a
beating heart.
Rustling of leaves
Rustling of leaves (left ear only)
I will record this sound by going outside to a location
with less amounts of wind and shaking leaves at
different intensities.
Thunder Crash I have collected the sound from the internet as there
is no way I can create this noise.

Evaluation
Research
I believe my research was successful because I had to create my story through
research about this tale and make sure everything was accurate when finalising my
story. My research helped my product by using a creature that was already created to
make the story more intimidating.
I could have improved my research slightly by using more research to include in the
story to make it more accurate to the original folk tale. I could have done this by using
more sources when creating my script and writing down notes, this then could have
given more accuracy to the story which possibly would have improved it overall.
Planning
I also believe lots of my planning was successful. I was able to complete each task I
had given myself successfully with a good amount of time left to evaluate it all.
Planning helped my product by helping me write everything down that needed to be
completed so I can then manage my time around this to make the process of the
project much more efficient.
One weakness in my planning was the resource list, this is because I had not labelled
everything that was needed which interrupted some of the production. This was only
a slight amount of time reduction and it did not have that much overall impact on my
time.
If I had improved my resource management, I would have had more time to complete
my evaluation.
Time Management
I believe I have managed my time very well, this is because I have managed to
complete every section of my task the way I wanted to do so. I also had extra time
left for my evaluation once my project was done to complete it easier.
If I had more time to complete my work I would have extended my script to add
more to my horror story.
Technical Qualities
Some of the similarities between my work and the piece of work ‘Doctor
Who’ are that both pieces of work are heavily dialog based to create a
stronger story. Both pieces were still quite different still, Doctor Who used
different effects to manipulate speech to create a heavier impact while
my dialog was unchanged.
My audio project was not very complicated to create, the only effects that
were used were to change the amount of decibels in each piece of audio
used. I also used multiple layers of audio in my piece which added some
complexity to the audio project.
I recorded my audio with a audio recorder given by the college and most
pieces of audio were recorded on this recorder. The other effects were
taken from the internet.
Aural Qualities
I do believe my final piece of work sounded good, there was no background
noise and the sound effects were a high quality. I also believe there was a good
amount of creativity in my work as I created my own story through an already
existing folk tale.
If I were to go back and improve my audio project I would have created more
effects for some of the dialog to make the story telling more intimidating. I do
believe it still did a good job by itself though.
Audience Appeal
I believe I have appealed to my target audience (teenagers/young adults) as I
believe I have managed to create a decently compelling story that's easy to
understand what's happening at every moment while also using other people
folk tales which may create more interest for some more of my target audience.
I believe the element of horror created in the audio project matches the target
audience well and will attract most of the age range, making it successful to the
target audience.

The only people that can defeat the Peuchen are called Machi(medicine women). • Using this knowledge from this tale I could create my own story involving the encounter of a Peuchen and create the scenario in someone's head using audio.
  • 8. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction Peuchen Folk Tale Since the story only tells of what the creature can do, I can create my own tale of an encounter with a Peuchen I need to make sure I use influence from the original folk tale so I can make the story more compelling easier. I will write the script in the perspective of the person captured so I can make the Peuchens capabilities scarier.
  • 9. Proposal Working Title: Encounter with the Peuchen Project Concept: I am going to create a short story about someone's experience with this creature. This story can be adjusted to make the best story possible as long as I stay true to what the creature does and it’s actions. I can use other sound effects during telling the story to increase the amount of horror in the story. During research I learned about how the Peuchen would kill its victims and a description of what people think it would look like. The story will follow what people would describe an encounter and how they could be stopped, and since the details in the lore are quite gruesome, it can make a very good horror story. Audience: My target audience for my short audio story will be for young adults. This is because my story will be very dark as it will be very specific about what happens to a person when encountering a Peuchen, making it not good for children, but I believe it will be interesting for young adults. My short story would be marketed towards both genders as there is no aspect of the story that would interest one gender more than the other so it would be targeted to both.
  • 11. Foley • Include your work on foley and some writing about what went well, what could be better and what you have learned. -I believe I recorded most of the sounds that were needed in this shot which made it fairly successful. -One way I could have improved my foley project is to improve some of the clips that were taken, this is because there was sometimes background audio along with the primary auditory needed which worsened the overall quality. -I learned to give a better analysis for anything that needs foley as there were many more sounds than I expected to be. I also learned I need to listen for any background noises before recording. https://youtu.be/G5KqIMFh_FA
  • 12. Recording • Write about your experiences of recording in different places. - Overall, recording inside was much easier than outside, there were many problems involving recording outside. - One issue outside was wind, this is because it was very loud which severely impacted the sounds made outside. - If you want to record in a public area, it can cause difficulty if other people are around as they will create noise. • What effect did it have? How will this influence your project? - I was able to cut out some of the noise created through the wind with the final piece which improved the project in the end. - I don’t believe this had a major impact on my final project as I was able to either alter or re-record any bad audio clips, which helped me improve it in the end. • 14. Script Draft 1 This is a story about how I encountered the mythical creature the Peuchen, feared by all in Chile where stories are told of the monster and how it lures and kills its victims. This is my encounter with the Peuchen. *Rustling of leaves* I was walking in the woods *footsteps* and a surge of panic filled my body. But from what, I would later find out. I kept walking despite every bone in my body urging to turn away*heavy heartbeat*, everything was normal until I hear heavy rustling coming from the bush to my left *rustling of leaves in the left ear*. I turn, panicked and flustered *heavy breathing*, only to see a small rabbit. My heart instantly settles once seeing this innocent creature. I continue walking looking at the rabbit, the fear I once had gone. I could have blinked and missed it… *Thunder Crash* I white flash appeared before me, in the rabbits place was a being of unimaginable horror. A massive serpent flying above the ground, towering over me. I stumble to the ground, trembling in fear, unable to move as the fear consumes me. It’s gaze was consuming me, I had me trapped with it’s demonic stare, paralysed, I was stuck… Hopeless. Then, it’s cold eyes flash ** and I began to feel weak, it was draining my blood, destroying me… Slowly, it almost seemed to enjoy my agony. His gaze was finally going to consume me, a white light approached me as a felt weightless*sharp ringing noise*, I knew this was the end for me...
  • 15. Script Draft 2 I could feel myself drifting away from reality, from life… But then, it stopped. I woke up being rushed away *four people marching* by four people carrying me on a stretcher, I was unable to identify them as my vision was blurry. I looked back, how did the monster not kill me? I turn and see two women that I could only assume to be the Machi, these heroic medicine woman saved my life.

  • 17. Sound Effects Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound Sharp ringing noise I have collected the sound from the internet as there is no way to manually create this noise. Footsteps (4x) Footsteps (1x) I will create this myself and use different sections of the clip to make it sound like there are four people. Heavy Breathing I will create the sound by using someone else to breathe into the recorder. Heavy Heartbeat I will create this sound by having someone knock on wood to create a similar and louder sound to a beating heart. Rustling of leaves Rustling of leaves (left ear only) I will record this sound by going outside to a location with less amounts of wind and shaking leaves at different intensities. Thunder Crash I have collected the sound from the internet as there is no way I can create this noise.

  • 27. Research I believe my research was successful because I had to create my story through research about this tale and make sure everything was accurate when finalising my story. My research helped my product by using a creature that was already created to make the story more intimidating. I could have improved my research slightly by using more research to include in the story to make it more accurate to the original folk tale. I could have done this by using more sources when creating my script and writing down notes, this then could have given more accuracy to the story which possibly would have improved it overall.
  • 28. Planning I also believe lots of my planning was successful. I was able to complete each task I had given myself successfully with a good amount of time left to evaluate it all. Planning helped my product by helping me write everything down that needed to be completed so I can then manage my time around this to make the process of the project much more efficient. One weakness in my planning was the resource list, this is because I had not labelled everything that was needed which interrupted some of the production. This was only a slight amount of time reduction and it did not have that much overall impact on my time. If I had improved my resource management, I would have had more time to complete my evaluation.
  • 29. Time Management I believe I have managed my time very well, this is because I have managed to complete every section of my task the way I wanted to do so. I also had extra time left for my evaluation once my project was done to complete it easier. If I had more time to complete my work I would have extended my script to add more to my horror story.
  • 30. Technical Qualities Some of the similarities between my work and the piece of work ‘Doctor Who’ are that both pieces of work are heavily dialog based to create a stronger story. Both pieces were still quite different still, Doctor Who used different effects to manipulate speech to create a heavier impact while my dialog was unchanged. My audio project was not very complicated to create, the only effects that were used were to change the amount of decibels in each piece of audio used. I also used multiple layers of audio in my piece which added some complexity to the audio project. I recorded my audio with a audio recorder given by the college and most pieces of audio were recorded on this recorder. The other effects were taken from the internet.
  • 31. Aural Qualities I do believe my final piece of work sounded good, there was no background noise and the sound effects were a high quality. I also believe there was a good amount of creativity in my work as I created my own story through an already existing folk tale. If I were to go back and improve my audio project I would have created more effects for some of the dialog to make the story telling more intimidating. I do believe it still did a good job by itself though.
  • 32. Audience Appeal I believe I have appealed to my target audience (teenagers/young adults) as I believe I have managed to create a decently compelling story that's easy to understand what's happening at every moment while also using other people folk tales which may create more interest for some more of my target audience. I believe the element of horror created in the audio project matches the target audience well and will attract most of the age range, making it successful to the target audience.
