2. Initial Reaction
ā¢ The set brief I was given is to pitch a new magazine to āBauer Mediaā, a European media
company. I have to produce a front cover and double page spread of my ātaster' magazine. In
order to create this creative media production, I will base it on things Iām interested in ā so it
will likely be a music based magazine. This is a good topic to base my magazine on as there
are a limitless amount of music magazines present in the market to draw influence from;
such as āKerrangā or āNMEā.
ā¢ My opinion on this set brief isnāt really a positive one, as Iāve already made a tonne of
magazines for my GCSEās so Iām not overly thrilled to see me doing another one. My opinion
on music magazines in general is neutral, I donāt read or buy them very often, but I have on a
few occasions. Whenever I have bought them itās because an artist I like is the main focus,
which is something I will incorporate into my final presentation.
5. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
ā¢ A common element between most of these magazines is the use of the colour red,
used on the masthead; āKerrangā, āQā and āMetal Hammerā are all using a red
masthead. A medium shot is used a lot between all the magazines, so that the
artists are easily visible and recognisable to the consumer, so that they can
potentially buy the issue if it appeals to them.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
ā¢ I will create my final product in the vain of some of my mood board images, an
example being that most of them use a medium to medium close-up image of an
artist or multiple. So when I start photography I will also choose a medium shot of
someone who is presented as the main focus.
6. Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Research, Initial Response,
Audience Research
ā¢ Compile a visual collage of related
products ā look at other magazines
ā¢ Try to find some information on the target
audience of music magazines
2 Production Experiments,
Proposal, Planning
ā¢ Try and compose a list of what I feel to be
the best conventions of music magazines
and make sure I follow the āto-do listā
ā¢ Make sure I know what shots I need ā eg:
medium close-up of man etc.
3 Production ā¢ Finish all photography and make a start on
editing
ā¢ The aim is to create a neatly designed
magazine, I will choose straight fonts as
opposed to sharp or wonky fonts

choose fonts etc.
ā¢ Hopefully finish all production and be
ready to start evaluation
