C. Presentation
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
I asked you about song because we will
tackle about a song entitle “Don’t Forget
Where You Belong” which is one of the
lyric poems used by the 1D, which shows
how it is important that you always
remember where you came from and
remember who you are.
(Discuss a brief info about 1D)
But before we start, how many of you
know what a poem is?
Very good! All of your answers are correct.
So a poem is highly expressive, written in
verse, and arranged with rhyme and
meter. There are many kinds of poetry.
What kinds of poetry do you know?
Yes all your answers are correct. We have
the narrative, epic, dramatic, elegy and
lyric poetry.
So according to our book, the song is
grouped under lyric poetry. Lyric, do you
know or understand this word?
Poetry is pretty but what do you call the
words found in a song?
Very nice! So now lyric poetry would be…
Student 5: A poem is a composition written
in verse.
Student 6: A poem is an arrangement of
words containing meaning.
Student 7: A poem is a highly expressive,
literary piece.
Student 8: A poem is a composition written
with rhyme and meter.
Student 9: Epic
Student 10: Drama/Dramatic
Student 11: Narrative
Student 12: Elegy
Student 13: Lyric
Student 14: Lyrics.
Student 15: Lyric poetry is a poem with
words.
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Yes every poem is composed of words but
what does the word lyric tell about this
type of poem?
Activity 1: Discussion
Don’t Forget Where You Belong
By One Direction
Been a lot of places
I’ve been all around the world - 1
Seen a lot of faces
Never knowing where I was - 2
On the horizon
Oh, well, I know, I know, I know
I know the sun will be rising
Student 16: Lyric poetry is a poem that is
meant to be sung
Back home -3
Living out of cases, - 4
Packing up and taking off - 5
Made a lot of changes
But not forgetting who I was - 6
On the horizon
Oh, well, I know, I know, I know,
I know the moon will be rising
Back home - 7
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong, home
If you ever feel alone, don’t - 8
You were never on your own
And the proof is in this song - 9
I’ve been away for ages
But I’ve got everything I need
I’m flicking through the pages
I’ve written in my memory - 10
I feel like I’m dreaming
Oh, so I know, I know, I know,
I know that I’m never leaving
No, I won’t go - 11
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong, home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own
And the proof is in this song
Lights off when they should be on- 12
Even stars and skies above
Short days when the nights are long - 13
When I think of the days I’ve gone
Don’t matter how far I’ve gone
I’ll always be around oh - 14
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong (don’t forget
it), home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own
Never, never
Don’t forget where you belong, home
Don’t forget where you belong (don’t forget
it), home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own (you were
never)
And the proof is in this song
Home
Don’t forget it
Home
If you ever feel alone, don’t
You were never on your own (you were
never)
And the proof is in this song
Never forget it
This song
Don’t forget it!
No, I never forget it
This song
You were never – 15
After you read and listen to the song, how
do you feel?
After reading the first stanza, what can you
say about it?
Yes, very well!
Have you been far away to your home or
to you love ones?
How is it feeling?
Yes, right. Now let’s proceed to the lyrics
interpretation, and let’s see if what you’ve
said is related to it.
Explained Lyrics
1. One Direction has traveled far and
wide during their careers as
musicians.
Okay, number 2 means:
2. A life of constant travel involves a lot
of interaction with seemingly
anonymous people.
Yes, correct!
Okay, class just listen attentively
3. Even if we are far away, we comforted
by the idea that home awaits us no
matter where we are.
4. That is, suitcases.
5. “Packing up and taking off” signifies
traveling long distances.
6. Traveling constantly changes a
Student 17: the song is very heart ranging.
Student 18: So meaningful
Student 19: The singers, traveled far and
wide during their careers as musicians.
Students: Yes!
Student 20: It feels lonely
Student 21: It feels like you’re a stranger in
a new place that you’re in.
Student 22: We met a lot of people.
Student 23: Homesickness!
Student 24: How about the number 2,
Ma’am?
Student 25: It means that by being far way,
we can meet a lot of different people.
Student 26: How about number 3 and the
others?
person, but us clings to our core
identity.
7. One Direction sings of home again,
this time using the word “moon”
instead of “sun” to show that home is
home, regardless of time.
Yes, it is!
8. Feelings of loneliness only occur when
one feels dissociated from his home.
9. Most personal support comes from the
people in one’s home area.
Yes, that is what it said in number 10.
10.Constant travel can be a burden, but
memories of home are always
comforting to those who are traveling.
What can you say about the number
10?
11.One Direction now sings about
returning home for good.
Yes!
12.Being in a distant or foreign place
results in a very different environment
with many unanticipated quirks.
13.The natural environment is different in
some places around the world than it
is in one’s home area.
14.We must believe that home can
always be rediscovered through one’s
memories.
15.One Direction sings this song as a
tribute to their places of origin.
Student 27: Everybody feels lonely when
we a far away in our home, right?
Student 28: Travelling is like a burden.
Student 29: it is the journey’s memory that
counts most.
Student 30: So, ma’am the process of
adjustment comes?
Student 31: Now, this will become one of
my favorite.
Student 32: This made me cry.
V. Generalization
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
So class what have you learn from our
lesson?
Yes correct. You know class. The time
comes that all of you will have to get out
on your box, I mean, your comfort zone.
You have to choose your own career; you
have to be far away to rich your dreams or
Student 33: Ma’am we must don’t forget
that no matter how far we are, there will
always a home that waits us. A home
where we can say that, this is where we
belong.
Student 34: Promise to look back where I
came from.
to find your job. But no matter how high
your aim is, and how far you are, just
always remember where you came from.
And always put your feet on the ground.
VI. Evaluation
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
The students will write the lyrics of their
favorite song in one whole sheet of paper,
and they will give the interpretations of
each lines/lyrics
VII. Assignment
I want you to research the lyrics of the song “Jesus Takes the Wheel” and give its
interpretation. You will pass that tomorrow.
