participle
2) have a mastery level of not less than 75%
II. Subject Matter

References: Prentice Hall Literature pages 112-115
Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey
Materials: Flashcards, Cartolina, Chalk, Picture, Flash Card
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
“Good morning class. Before we go on
with our new lesson, let us pray first. Who
would like to lead the prayer?”
“Thank you. Class Monitor, please
check the attendance”
B. Statement of the Aims
C. Motivation
“I have a picture here posted on the
board. Please read the sentences
underneath.
“What have you observed with the
given sentences?”
“Correct. These are example of
participle. Do you have any idea what
participle is?”
(One student will volunteer to lead the prayer)
Lisa danced yesterday.
Lisa dances every day.
Lisa will dance tomorrow.
“The verb changes.”
“A participle is a form of a verb that is used in
a sentence to modify a noun, noun phrase,
verb, or verb phrase, and thus plays a role
similar to that of an adjective or adverb.”
D. Lesson Proper
“Very good. A participle is a form of
the verb that is used together with
another verb to form certain tenses.”
“There are three forms of participle;
the past participle, the present participle
and the past participle.”
Discussion
(In a one piece cartolina, the teacher
will show the definition of participles with
corresponding examples.)
“Everybody please read.”
“Now that you already have an idea
what participle is and its form let’s take a look
again at the example particularly on sentence
number 1. The verb used is “danced”. This
verb is in what form do you think? Is it in past,
present or past participle?”
“Correct. It is in the past form. How
can you prove that the answer is correct?”
“Excellent. You got the answer right. It
is the present form. What about the
second sentence. In what participial form
is it?”
“Correct. As for the third sentence it is
in the future participle because it
describes things that have yet to
happen.
IV. Generalization
“A participle is a form of a verb that is
used in a sentence to modify a noun, noun
phrase, verb, or verb phrase, and thus plays a
role similar to that of an adjective or adverb.
The past participle describes things that have
already happened. Past participles are
generally formed by adding –ed to the base
(The students will read the writings)
“It is in the past participle”
“It is because of the word ‘’yesterday’’ which
gives a hint that the activity has already
happened.”
“ It is in the present participle”
form of the verb. The Present Participle is
used to describe things that are happening
right now or things that are continuous. It is
formed by adding the suffix '-ing' to the base
form of the verb. While the future tense
describe things that are yet to happen. It uses
the form will + the base form of the verb.
Fixation of Skills
(The teacher will use flash cards. The students
will read the sentence and they will guess
what participial form was used.)
V. Evaluation
Read the following sentences
carefully. Determine whether the underlined
verb used is in the past participle, present
participle, or future participle.
1. Ainah Grace cried last night.
2. Charmaine cooks lunch.
3. Roda attended the seminar.
4. Anna Mae will pass her project
tomorrow.
5. Angel shouted at Jennalyne.
6. The third year students gathered at
the auditorium.
7. I will give you my cellphone as a gift on
your graduation day.
8. Nezza wears glasses.
9. Mikay composed a poem for her crush.
10. Joahanna eats hearthily.
VI. Assignment
Compose five sentences using any of
the three basic participial forms and
identify the form used.
