2. Existing Product: Crash Bandicoot
Below is a screenshot from the recent remaster of Crash Bandicoot; I chose this
game because my game will be a 2-D platformer with some sections where the
player will have to dodge obstacles in order to progress through each level with
touching the obstacle results in death until specific battles appear for the player. I
believe my target audience would enjoy this because the game will have 2-D
platforming sections before getting to the main battles in the game.
3. Existing ProductTo the right is a screenshot from the pixel horror
platformer, sonic.exe; I chose this game because I
plan on using sonic.exe to get the players panicking
and rushing because I plan on having a timer for
each level and when the timer reaches 0, sonic.exe
will appear and will chase the player throughout the
game, slowly getting faster until the player either
escapes by finishing the level or gets caught and
killed brutally by sonic.exe, ending the game with a
bloody game over and sonic.exe's face appearing
with one of his phrases above him. I will use the
drowning music from the original sonic the
hedgehog games when sonic.exe is chasing the
player in order to keep tension up as the player
rushes through the levels. This would appeal to my
audience because part of what my target audience
enjoys is the idea of being chased by an immortal
4. Existing ProductThe screenshot to the right is a
screenshot of one of the battles in Final
Fantasy 7 Remake; I chose this because
I plan on using a turn based rpg battle
system for when the player reaches
specific fights during the game, all
characters will have a HP (health
points) and MP (magic points) gauge
with an image of the characters at the
side of the bar to show the player who
they are controlling at each point of the
fight. I think my target audience would
enjoy this because it helps slow down
the game and can allow the players to
slow down and think the fight through
as each fight will be different and every
choice they make during the fight

The image below is a screenshot of one of Jacksepticeye's games made by fans of
his YouTube channel, I chose this because the game is designed using pixel art and
contain references to popular games and videos that Jacksepticeye has created on
YouTube. I believe that my target audience would enjoy this because of how this
game contains references to Jacksepticeyes videos and characters he has created, I
plan on having multiple characters and references during the game which will give
my target audience a sense of nostalgia as there will be a mix of retro and modern
characters
6. Research Analysis
What common features do the researched products have?
• Each of the products are taken from different games that contain different parts for my
game
• Every game I used for my research has pieces that I will use for my video game project
What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• From Crash Bandicoot: The 2-D platforming sections from the games because I want to
do a 2-D platformer with sections of RPG battles
• From Sonic.exe: During the game, when the timer reaches 0, sonic.exe starts chasing
the player until either the player reaches the end of the level or get caught by
sonic.exe, causing the ending for each character from the sonic.exe game
• From Final Fantasy: I'll be using the turn base RPG battle systemfor important fights
during the game where the player controls every character
• From the Jacksepticeye fan game: I'll be using the pixel art and the use of referencing
well known characters to help give a sense of nostalgia for the game
