This is a high angle shot of the
woman that is the main character in
the video. This shot shows the
vulnerability of the woman, as she is
laying there after being shot in the
neck with an arrow. The use of mise-
en-scene makes the scene more
realistic as there is fake blood all over the bed, the bed also creates a sense of
peace, as that is where people say people lay peacefully asleep, so her being
dead on the bed, it shows that the peacefulness of the woman is eternal. She
also has angel wings on her back, this also makes the sense of peacefulness
even stronger, as they are seen to be the nicest things in existence.
The shot they've used in this clip is an
over the shoulder shot, which helps
you see what the persons shoulder
you're looking over can see. This is
the forensics taking place of the
death of the angel. The setting of this
clip is what looks like an abandoned warehouse office, this is conventional of
angels or super humans coming from somewhere else and settling down on
earth, they always find an abandoned place so that they aren't spotted. The
mise-en-scene that they have used in this clip is also conventional of the
people who they're portraying.
This is a mid-shot, which is showing
the angel from waist up. This is
conventional of the music genre, as
they are all deep lyrics and this
woman is deep into thought and the
lyrics also tend to be about love or
2. loneliness, this is the face you see in most films when a person is either in love
or lonely. The setting continues to be in an abandoned warehouse office.
Throughout the video she wears white, this is conventional of angels as their
conventional colour is white.
This shot is a long shot that has been
blurred, it shows a shot of her
'blossoming' in all her beauty, as this
is the first time you see her wings
fully. Yet again the setting is in the
abandoned warehouse office, this is
obviously where she stays before she turns into/back into an angel, then when
she's an angel she goes out to find people she is looking for. The mise-en-scene
used in this isn't conventional of an angel as she is wearing what looks to be
black on her bottom half.
This is another over the shoulder
shot, which shows Ed, this is
conventional of his music videos as
he always stars in them at one point,
so this carries on the tradition in his
videos. This setting is in a cafe, this
tends to be where most people hang
out if they're lonely, as they get a coffee or tea and just think, normally after an
argument or bad turn in a film. She is still wearing white from what you can
see. The use of this shot allows you to see what is going on in the background.
The shot used in this clip is an
establishing shot, which gets a view
of the area she is in, this isn't like any
other setting she's been in
throughout this video, so this shot
3. has been used to get you see the setting fully. It also allows you to fully see
what she is wearing which is unconventional for an angel. When she leaves the
warehouse she is always in the dark, this is because less people are out to be
able to see her.
A two shot has been used to see the
difference in people and see what
they are both doing which is kissing
one another. This shot is used for a
comparison as one is in white,
signifying peace and good and the
other is in black/dark, which is
showing evil and mystery. This means that the mise-en-scene that has been
used is done well and helps you get a clearer picture of what is going on.
