2. LOCATION (SETTING)
The Descent is set in a cave, the reason is because
no one has ever explored it, and the girls
wanted to be the first to explore it and name if
after them, but what they don’t know is that the
cave has already been explored by crawlers.
Once they are in the cave there is only one way
in and one way out, until they find the second
exit, but its too late for some of them. When
they see the crawlers they struggle and are in
need of help, they only have a limited amount
of supplies and struggle to see anything with a
limited amount of light with only torches and
flares. You can also see night vision cameras
on the top screenshot and you see a pile of
bones, this tell the audience that they might be
in trouble as things have been eaten down
there before.
3. COSTUME, HAIR AND MAKE UP
The crawlers in the film, has prosthetic make up
to create their demon like face and body, this
is to tell the audience that the crawlers are
not human.
In the bottom screenshot you can see Juno is
not wearing lady like clothes, you can from
her costume and props that she is exploring
a cave, she is wearing a hardhat, this is part
of the costume, this is to prevent anything
hitting her head and anything like rocks
falling and hurting her head, she also has a
torch on her hardhat, this is a prop she uses,
this is to see anything she faces at.
4. PROPS
During the film, many props have been used
to show the audience that the film is a
horror film. The pile of bones in the top
screenshot is a prop to tell the audience
that its not a safe place to be. The bottom
screenshot is the hardhat, the lighter, and
the light. The hardhat to to stop her
hurting her head. She uses the lighter for
a clever reason, she uses it to see which
way a breeze is coming from so she can
escape and the light is to see what is in
front of her. The lighting props are there
to create shadow, it helps to create
darkness in the scene so the audience
wont know what is coming.
5. LIGHTING
There are 3 lights during acting, there is the key
light which is the brightest, is in front of the
object, this shows the object during the scene.
There is the dimmer one to create shadow on
the side, this is not bright, but its bright
enough for the camera to get recognition of
the object or person in the scene. Then the
final light is not behind them, but on the facing
the back side on the object, this is there
because it shows the figure of the object.
During the Descent they use night vision
camera, this puts fear in the audience and they
cant see clearly as if it was a normal bright
screen, this means the audience will not know
what will happen. Flares are also placed in the
cave during the film, this gives a small amount
of light and creates shadows around the caves
so if the crawlers move they will see their
shadows put not the crawler, they are also
placed to put fear in the audience.
6. ACTING
In any movie, acting is the most important
thing to do for creating a perfect film.
During the Descent there is many emotions
used to show what the character is feeling.
The top screenshot shows that she is
showing a lot of emotion, she’s scared
because she saw something and she
doesn’t know what it is and also does not
know where its gone. The bottom
screenshot shows that all the girls are
trying to look for the crawler so they know
where it is, they are all worried as you can
tell from their body language, they are all
close together so none of them are alone,
and they can help each other if the crawler
gets them.
