2. Film Narrative
A Brief Synopsis
βThis story is about a person who sees a physical manifestation
of his negative and psychotic thoughts which he must figure out
how to get rid of to feel normal.β
My overall idea for this short film is to show a characters
difficulties with trying to find peace within themselves.
Constantly battling with his own mind (which in this case is
visible representation of his inner thoughts) leads the viewers to
believe that the main character is the overall victim within the
film.
Within the brief I am to include a revelation or a decision. I have
decided to incorporate this at the end of the film which will
reveal a twist ending which show the main character almost in a
mental institution and is talking with himself to show both his
normal self and his psychotic self
3. Key Character
The main character is going to be calledTom while the thought
version of him is going to be calledAlex.Throughout the
majority of the filmTom will be seen being relatively normal
apart from nearer the end when its revealed he's actually gone
insane and what's being seen before is just his thoughts while
he stays at a mental institution.Tom is going to be seen
throughout without talking to anyone/saying very little. My
plan is to show that his little connection to people apart from
Alex which his just his inner thoughts will add the whole
phycological genre that I am aiming for.
4. FilmWorld The film world I plan on basing around very bland
colours as scenery while also including different
elements of mise en scene which will add to this idea of
being trapped within a room with your thoughts which
is exactly what this character ofTom is dealing with. I
hope to make it subtle enough that if someone were to
watch this film for a second time knowing the plot twist
at the end they can see that even within the characters
thoughts he is still trapped within this confined space.
I also want to focus on continuity and include
something that will make the audience confused if they
spot it. An example could be within the film βShutter
Islandβ (2010) when someone takes a drink from a glass
that isnβt shown in one of the shots.
This shot can be seen at 4:10 here
5. Target Audience
My ideal target audience for this film will be people that are
interested in films and television dramas where they have to
think outside of what they can just see on screen.
The age range I feel would enjoy this film the most is
somewhere around the ages of 15-35. My reasoning for this is
because most films or dramas that are somewhat similar to
what I plan to make my film about will contain similar themes
that are targeted towards this age group.
