5. Background of the Study
Chapter I
Introduction
This study aims to explore and find more information about the negative effects of online
games to the academic performance of Grade 10 Students in La Union National High School.
The researcher implies how and to determine whether online games are beneficial or
detrimental to students.According to Dumrique (2017), Online gaming is one of the widely
used leisure activities by many people. For some people it is said that playing video games
has several reasons to be played, for it can be a stress reliever, challenge and competition,
relaxation, enjoyment, social interaction, and even mentally escaping from the real world.
The fact that people live in on informative lifestyle where everything is updated, internet
became one of the necessities of human beings regardless of age or sex today. However, the
influence of this useful machine on youth is undeniably questionable. Student’s learning
takes place unexpectedly, but the inappropriate usage of playing online games also leads in
some problems such as being distracted in school. Further, it is where the attention of the
child was divided that even their health and social life is unknowingly affected.
6. Significance of the Study
Chapter I
This study entitled ”The Negative Effects of Online
Games on the Academic Performances of Grade 10-13 in La
Union National High School” is conducted to determine the
negative effects of online games and to benefit the
following:
Game Makers
Researchers
Students
Adult
Future researcher
7. Game Makers - This study will provide ideas to the game makers to
make another online game that they think will not much affect a
student’s learning but are pleasant to a student’s taste in playing.
Researchers - The researchers also benefited because they already
know the factors of online game that affects the academic
performance of a student. The researcher would also have the
knowledge on how to minimize their time when they are playing
online games also.
Students - The students will be benefited because they will know
how online games affect their learning. They will also have the
knowledge on how to minimize their time playing online games.
Adult - This study will also provide the needed information for the
adults who have installed online games to their gadgets especially
from the possible risk of addiction related to the study.
Future researcher - For the future researchers who are planning to
pursue research related to this study, this will serve as their guide in
doing their own study. They would also have a basis on doing their
research in the future.

This study entitled “The Negative Effects of Online
Games on the Academic Performances of Grade 10-13
in La Union National High School” aims to answer the
following research questions:
1.What are the ways on courting someone?
2.What are the reason why teenagers nowadays prefer
using of internet than traditional way of courting?
3.Why does traditional courting better than modern
courting?

equivalent technology.
