Ref: Kevin Schwittay | Marketing internship
Internship duration: 22nd June 2015 – 21st August 2015
2nd September 2015
Tornado Wire Ltd. is a manufacturer of wire fencing products for the
agricultural, equestrian, forestry and infrastructure sectors. 65% of the
company’s sales are in the UK with the majority of export sales being
within the EU. The company’s head office is in Warwickshire, with its
manufacturing plant in Cumbria, and an additional sales office in
Perthshire.
The Tornado marketing department is based in the Warwickshire office, and
in addition to the central marketing functions we also provide support for
our Scottish and Export customers, as well as assistance for our Irish
subsidiary Tornado Wire Ireland Ltd.
The vast majority of our work is conducted in-house, making time and
resources difficult to manage with a very small team. We therefore believed
that a successful internship could be of huge assistance both to the
company and the intern and provide much needed support across a variety of
marketing functions, and Kevin certainly proved this to be true.
Throughout his nine week internship, Kevin’s contribution across the
breadth of our marketing activities made a marked difference to our
workload; he not only increased the amount of projects we were able to
complete during his time with us, but also significantly improved some of
our German marketplace projects with his linguistic skills.
During Kevin’s internship with us he was encouraged to get involved in all
areas of the marketing process and the work he undertook covered a wide
range of projects – key tasks included:
Data input and management
• Systematically organising customers in CRM software, inputting pre-
defined segment information
Research
• Assistance with creation of German market research survey to target
potential new customers, including translation and editing of survey
questions
• Creation of mailing list for German market research survey
• Use of Mail Chimp and Survey Monkey software to create and
disseminate survey
• Assistance with creation of Scottish market research survey for
forestry sector customers
• Conducting qualitative face-to-face and telephone research interviews
• Analysis of qualitative survey results
• Report written summarising findings from Scottish forestry research
Creative
• Involvement in meetings with a creative agency to brief a campaign in
Germany.
• Creation of advert and poster artwork using Adobe InDesign CC
• Article written detailing contribution to Tornado during internship;
article spread then designed for company newsletter using Adobe
InDesign CC

• Content editing for Tornado’s German website, contributing to organic
SEO improvement
Linguistics
• Translation of English documents to German and vice-versa
It seems very clear to us that Kevin has a bright future ahead of him in
Marketing; he adapts quickly to new tasks and follows instructions well,
but is also very capable working under his own steam. He has an eye for
detail and an appreciation for combining creativity with the right message
for the right audience.
He is also a pleasure to work with as a colleague – he is a smashing,
polite, affable, confident, hard-working marketeer who is eager to offer
insights and ideas for improvement wherever possible.
We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours and we believe that
he will create a very positive impact wherever and however he furthers his
career.
