3. So why a Container Deposit/ Refund Scheme?
It is product stewardship scheme of the most fundamental kind
In NSW it is estimated that there are 3.5billion eligible containers, that is $350 million of
deposits, plus potentially up to $350 million of handling & transportation fees
That is potentially $700million of additional revenue in NSW that does not currently exist!
NSW EPA are to be congratulated in showing real leadership in taking this on,
Queensland and ACT are here today too, to talk about how they will follow this lead
Targets in NSW include
80% recovery rate of containers; and
40% reduction in litter
4. 7 Zones have been
created in NSW, with
potentially 10 Network
Operators to be
appointed in July 2017
3 Operators of which will
be in Zone 7
75-80% of volume in
Zone 7
Network Operators then
must establish
approximately 450
