Kartik N. Kalpande presented a seminar on recent Intel microprocessors. The seminar discussed Intel's history starting in 1968, the circuit diagram of the Intel Core i7 microprocessor, and Intel's architecture including SRAMs and the transition from DRAM to microprocessors. Advantages of Intel's recent microprocessors were highlighted such as higher performance from multiprocessor systems, improved cache latency from smart L3 cache, higher data throughput from PCI Express 2.0 and DDR3 memory interfaces, and improved virtualization performance. The seminar concluded that the Core i7 family of processors offers many new and improved features beneficial for applications including testing, measurement, and control.
