5. One such teaching model is juris prudential inquiry model pioneered by Donald oliver and
James P. Shaver (1966) which trains students to take a stand / position to a social problem
with relevant and valid arguments in a conflict. Juris prudential is a Latin word meaning
knowledge of laws / skills in laws. Betham is known as father of this social family of
model. It is a process of inquiry for solving controversial issues but when the same role is
played by a teacher and student in a class room for analyzing social and public issues then
it is known as juris prudence inquiry model of teaching.

8. SIX STAGES ARE INVOLVED
•Orientation to the case:- Lecture or teacher gives orientation to a case by introducing the
material and reviewing facts for the same the class is divided into two teams.
•Identifying the issue:- The teacher asks the students to synthesize facts into policy issue
for discussion and recognition of underlying factual and question.
•Taking position:- the students articulate a position in term of social value or consequence
of decision.

other and demonstrating lack of gross violation of second value.
