- Not only do these smart bollards provide a time and cost efficient traffic management option for events, they also provide such community events with added safety measures. On Bastille Day in Nice, France in July 2016 and the Christmas Markets in Berlin, Germany in December 2016, heavy vehicles were deliberately driven into crowds resulting in tragic fatalities and injuries to the public. In the wake of these incidents, the use of bollards as a safety precaution has become more popular. The bollards provide more protection for the events and are capable of stopping vehicles that attempt to drive through the closure, unlike temporary traffic control equipment such as traffic cones and water filled barriers.
