2. Robert Koch (1843-1910)
He is known for his identification of the specific causative
agents of many different illnesses/disease. He also gave
support for the idea of infectious disease. His findings led
to the creation of “Koch’s postulates”. It is four
generalized principles that link microorganisms to disease.
3. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895)
He created the first vaccinations for rabies and anthrax. His
discoveries have saved many people’s lives to this day. These
discoveries help support the germ theory.
4. Edward Jenner (1749-1823)
He helped create the vaccination for smallpox and helped
create the name vaccine. He created and described the
protective effect of cowpox against smallpox.
5. Emil von behring (1854-1917)
He discovered the diphtheria antitoxin. Diphtheria was the
major cause of death in children in the past.
7. The introduction of penicillin
In 1928 Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. His
discovery lead to the introduction of antibiotics. This
introduction is a milestone in the pharmaceutical chemistry.
8. The introduction of variolation
Variolation was created, but after awhile of using it Jenner
replaced it with a safer method known as vaccinations. This
change occurred in 1789.
