URBAN GROWTH (III)
46.
47.
48. • At the end of the 19th century, many cities in Europe and
North America had high rates of growth, often doubling
in size over a period of 20 years
• At the end of the 20th century, many cities in developed
countries had stopped growing; However, 75% of the
population of these countries live in urban centers.
• Two hundred years ago, London alone exceeded 1
million. Almost a hundred years ago there were ten cities
with a population of 1 million or more. Today, there are
almost 300 cities with a population above 1 million
• By the year 2025, 61% of the world's population will be
urban.
