Causes-
1. Not wearing body harness
2. Roof surface might be wet and slippery.
Precautions-
1. before climbing on the loco roof, make sure that it is not
wet.
2. Always use body harness while working on heights.
5. Use of IT System
1. Ensafe:-
It is Tata Steel’s own software for compliance and monitoring
of safety related instructions and practices. It is a self
triggering software.
2. CQMS (corporate quality management system):-
It has many modules in it. For example-
Equipment maintenance system
6. No unauthorized entry
Who ever it may be, without entry pass no
body can enter the factory premises.
For every entry permit, first a responsible
Officer/ Manager will be defined, who will take
care of safety and health responsibility of that
visitor/visitors.
No stray dogs, cow and buffalo seen inside the
factory premises.

7. Pedestrian mark, Traffic light
and Convex mirror
Each roads are very legible marked where to
walk, where to drive vehicle.
Speed sensors are there to ensure maximum
permissible speed of the vehicle inside the
factory premises.
Every blind corner are provided with convex
mirror.

9. Work Permits
For each and every activity, work permits are issued by concerned
supervisor.
Work permit includes
1. Type of Job
2. Validity
3. Hazards involved
4. Necessary precautions
5. Special instructions if any
So if an unknown person( not familiar with the workplace) comes to
work, he wont meet with any accident.

10. 6D Hazard Identification
It is a technique to identify all the hazards present at a work
place.
In this technique all the dimensions are covered. (S, N, E, W,
Top & Bottom)
There are total 4 categories of hazards-
1. Green
2. Blue
3. Yellow
4. Red- highly hazardous
The hazards are identified based on past experience and
safeguard available.

12. Standard to carry out hazardous
activities
TATA steel has developed his own standard for the
hazardous environment such as confine space, height
work, hot work, digging work, electrical work etc.
These are the standards or ideal way to carry out such an
activity.

13. Inheritance safety design of
machines, tools and Jigs
All hazardous machine like grinding machine,
pressure plants have been made hazard free
with proper fencing.
Caution mark (zebra marking, yellow with red)
has been done on the shop floor.
There is a defined pathway for movement on
the shop floor.

16. Elimination of STF hazards
Slip, trip and fall are the major industrial hazard,
where house keeping is poor.
All floors gang way and path way is marked with
yellow line, ramp/slope are marked with zebra
line(caution).
Caution line has been marked for pits and
barricaded to avoided accidentally trip and fall.
24 volt Lighting arrangement has been made inside
the pit line.
All materials are stacked with temporary barricading.

19. House keeping inside working
area
Various bins have been placed near to the working area duly
assessing the type of waste will be generated at particular shop
and location.
Also the frequency of disposal has been defined based on the
volume of waste generated.
Fresh cotton cloth and oil shocked cotton cloth bin has been
provided in shop floor.

22. EHS Buildings
All buildings roofs are provided with suitable step ladder to climb
the roof top.
All roof are provided with fall arrester. All transparent sheet
bellow metal grid has been provided as fall prevention method.
Roof are equipped with turbo ventilator for adequate air
circulation.
Cat walk with hand rails are being provided through out the
crane track with step ladder for climbing the crane as well as
catwalk.
Each building equipped with rain gutter with down pipe for rain
water harvesting. All sewage generated, connected to sewage
line.

26. Periodic testing of dangerous
equipment
All shops carrying out their statutory testing
such as crane, PV, chains, wire rope, other
lifting and carrying equipments as per the
schedule instructed by the state rules.

27. Tool box talk, importance of
notice board and concept of
“SHABAS”
Every day morning /shift starting meeting, concerned
supervisors talk about the safety/environment and
quality of the work. Also discussed desired outturn, need
of administration, convey all messages if any from the
administration to employees if it is relevant to the
employees.
All relevant letter are being displayed in the notice board.
To encourage and motivate the employee best achievers

29. Fire safety
Sufficient fire extinguishers of various
type(based on the type of fire) are available.
Fire hydrants are available as other fire
fighting measures.

31. Electrical safety
No unwanted wires are seen, all temporary
connection has been taken from the socket with
plugs and it also provided ELCB.
All MDBs are provided with rubber mat of
adequate ratings.

33. Well maintain canteen
A self service canteen of well maintained (neat and clean) very good
ventilation and light. The floor and inside walls made of smooth and
impervious materials .The doors and windows of a canteen building are of
fly-proof construction.
