1. Tell me in no more than20 words, what you
would like to make for yourFMP next year.
I would like to makean animation, perhapsas a
video gameor possibly not.
Why does thatinterest you? While the processis admittedly very exhausting,
tryingto make an interestingidea anddeveloping
it, tweaking it and puttingit all togetheris
enjoyable. Once the productis created, if it
resembles anythingclose to what I had in mind,
the producthasa certain satisfaction thatisn’t
there with the othertypesof media I havemade. I
reckon it’sbecause of the ridiculousamountof
effort thatmustgo into writing all aboutit,
makingall the partsto it, andeventually puttingit
all togetherthat completingit gives me an extra
sense of relief.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
It wouldbe importanttome as the project will
really pushme tomy limits for imagination,
determinationand howmuch skill I haveor will
learn. I want to see if I can cut it in thisline of
work or if I shouldreconsideranythingpost-
college.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paper-based
activity)
The initial influence for me to want to advance
into a more animationfocussedcourse is the work
I havedone for the first year, especially coming
from my FMP. This is because I basedmy last
project on the former one in Video Game
Animationand I saw a considerable improvement
between each, showing thatI can adaptand
developmy skill a lot if I have a solid idea to work
off. As the animationI had donewas for a video
game, multiple gamesI have playedor seen
influenced how I made my story. I couldalso say
my interest in animatedshowslike “Adventure
Time” influenced my decision to do animationa
little as I like how vibrantand “animated”these
fantastical worlds can be.
2. This initial document provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise
your progress and achievements through the first 7 units of the qualification and what you
plan to create in your final project. Think about what you know now, and what it means to
you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how
this has influenced your choice of pathway and your FMP.
What skillsdo youhave now thatcan help you
with that?
I havea decent amountof experience in
Photoshopdesigningpartsforanimation, in pixel
work anyway, andhow they would translateinto a
flowing animation. I also knowhow to use
Premiere, perhapsto a lesser extent, so I can
place videoand audiofiles together. Speakingof, I
can also makequite simple music, butI haveonly
useda pixel-like type of music soI don’tknowif
thatwould be too useful.
What skillsdo youneed to gain duringyourother
2nd
year projects to help youmake a better FMP
next year.
If I was planningon going intodrawn animation, I
would haveto learn a lot!I would have toadjust
to usinga tablet, learn how to make the different
frames movesa little without takinguptoo much
time re-drawing it, andmany other complexities
thatcome with drawing the movementthatI
wouldn’thaveto think aboutin pixel form.
Another partof the animationI wouldhave to
think aboutwould be how the scene moves, as
with the previousanimationstakinga video game
angle, their camera wasn’t very dynamic
comparedto what cartoonscan display. This
would alsomean that any character I made could
be pastedand edited slightly tomove, instead
requiring a new set of movementall the way
through. I may also have to figure out how touse
more enhancedmusic, branchingoutinto
instrumentalsoundsratherpurely pixelated to
openthe range of tracksI can make.
What haveyoulearned this year that will help you
next year?
This year introducedme to the Adobe
programmesthatI would havehad noidea how
use prior to the College course. These
programmeswill be essential in any of the work I
will do next year, in the media course. I also know
thatit would probably bebest if I plan my projects
before I start them properly, sothat I don’tfind
myself in a mad rushas I havedone in the first
year. Anotherpart of the course that I learnt is
thatmost of each project requires a lot of writing
so whatever idea I have, I shouldthink abouthow
muchI will be able to write onit, for research or
analysis.
