1. Q3: HOW DID YOUR
PRODUCTION SKILLS
DEVELOP THROUGHOUT
THIS PROJECT?
2. Throughout thisproject my production skillshavedeveloped greatly, mostly on
photoshop. Beforestarting thisproject I had experiencethrough using photoshop
during my GCSE yearsdo watched YouTubevideosto refresh my memory of the
basic skillslikeselection and editing colour. My skillson Photoshop developed asI
wasmuch better at choosing and perfecting compositionsand making thefinished
pieceslook moreprofessional.
3. Through research, I found that in most of thefashion and lifestylemagazines, amid
shot wasthemost common for thecover. Thisknowledgehelped meto createa
magazinecover that wasconventional and professional thereforeattracting my
target audience. My knowledgeand understanding of thecodesand conventionsof
magazineshasbroadened through studying similar magazineslikebello, LA and
indieto find stylesand layoutsthat would appeal to thetarget audience.
4. I havenever written or produced an articlepagebeforeand I found it challenging at
first to find layoutsthat I thought my target audiencewould likehowever, asit
turned out, thiswasthepageI produced thequickest. Which gavemetimeto go
over alterationsand small editsfor thecover and contentspage.
5. Another way my production skillshavedeveloped isthrough timemanagement and
thespeed at which I work. When I started theproject, I had not taken photographs
properly in astudio with such good quality equipment. I decided to takesome
practiceshotsso that I could familiarisemyself with thesetup and how thelights
worked. My organisation and timemanagement really helped with thereal shootsas
I only had themodelsfor alimited time.
6. I learnt thehard way that when taking my photographs, I
must check everything insidetheframebeforetaking the
picture, also, editing theapertureand exposureon the
camerasavestimeediting in photoshop for example, one
photograph that I loved, had themodelsbright bluesocks
showing insideher boot which wasapain in photoshop
after. I learnt that it isbetter to takelotsof photographsas
somecould beblurry or thelighting could bewrong.
7. My photography skillsdeveloped immensely through this
project, and good photography isvital for successful
production. I wasfortunateto haveaccessto thespecialist
equipment such asLED lightsand thegreenscreen room
with both whiteand green backdrops. Theseboth helped
to enhancemy photography meaning that I needed to do
lessediting in photoshop. I improved my skillsin creating
an effectivecomposition that will appeal to my target
audience. Thiswasdeveloped by looking through printed
magazinesand doing onlineresearch to seethetypical
miseen sceneused in fashion and lifestylemagazines. I
also asked peersand teachersfrom my target audienceto
givemefeedback on thingsto improveasI wanted my
product to appeal to thetarget demographic.
