2. The first 3 shots of this opening scene shows a man
contemplating life sitting in his car. This may mean
that he is about to have a flash back of some sort
as he seems to be remembering something. The
location of this may show how isolated he is to
enforce the idea that he needed a place to think
away from people. The character later states how
he remembers something from back when he was
12. This gives the audience an idea of what the
movie will be about and what age group the
characters may be later in the movie.
Mise en scene
3. Sound
The sound in this opening scene is music followed by a narrators
commentary. The commentary helps the viewer know what is
going on in the film. This is important as without it the viewers
may get lost as the opening scene of the film has two different set
times. The song is very personal and fits into the scene being
shown(isolated and alone while the character thinks). The sad
song may also show that something bad may be about to happen
or will happen later in the film.
4. Camera angles and Editing
The first camera angle is an extreme
long shot which helps show the
location of where the scene is being
located
The next is a long shot. This helps us
identify that there is a person sitting
in the car
This close up shows the audience
what the character looks like and
how he is feeling
This medium shot shows
the audience what the
character is looking at
while he thinks
This camera angle is important as it shows where the movie
will be located(a town) A long shot was appropriate as it
shows whats in the background as well as showing what the
character is doing in the shot. The shot later slowly zooms in
and does a pan shot of the character walking
5. Editing
Throughout the scene the cuts are very clear and focused but at the
end the cut fades into the next. This lets the audience know that
the character is dreaming/remembering the moment that the shot
fades into. This is important as clear cuts show what is happening in
the present so it would be hard to distinguish when the scene is
going on without the fading into the next cut.
