School Projects:
Design and Visual Communication
Designed a stair climbing robot to compete against other groups.
Used ProE for approximately 40 hours to model gears, shafts, and other parts.
Spent over 50 hours fabricating these parts in a machine shop using lathes and mills.
Mechanics of Materials
Designed and built a Popsicle stick bridge and made calculations to predict where the bridge would fail when
placed under an axial load.
Competed in a rivet competition in which rivets were tested for tension failure, shear failure, and tear-out.
Mechatronics
Worked with a four man team in order to model, manufacture, and program a volleyball playing robot.
Used solid works to model the robot which was then fabricated using 3-D printing, vacuum forming, and a mill.
Programmed the robot using Arduino and controlled the robot wirelessly through serial communication.
Engineering Design
Worked with a group to design and manufacture an ultra-light backcountry ski.
Investigated the use of different materials such as carbon fiber, fiberglass, nylon, and UHMW.
Used ANSYS and Solid Works to create finite element models to optimize the skis performance.
Designed and machined test apparatus to assess critical functions such as binding pull out and edge durability.
Used the prototyping to refine our process and increase performance.
HVAC
Designed a full air conditioning system by calculating the cooling load required for a chosen building.
Designed this system using a standard vapor compression cycle with appropriate ducting and fan combination.
