8. The Indian green building council(IGBC) was formed
in the year 2001 by Confederation of Indian
Industry(CII).
The aim of the council is to bring green building
movement in India and facilitate India to become one
of the global leaders in green buildings by 2015.
GRIHA Council an independent platform for the
interaction on scientific and administrative issues related
to sustainable habitats in the Indian subcontinent.
It was founded by The Energy and Resources
Institute(TERI) with support from Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy, Government of India(MNRE) along
with a handful of experts in the sustainability of built
environment from across the country.

9. Both IGBC and GRIHA provide
green building certification in India.
The total registered green footprint
of India (4.7 million sq.ft) is the
second largest in the world after USA
which is 13.8 million sq.ft. of LEED
certification spaces.
The market size of green building
in India is expected to grow to 10
million sq.ft in 2022 from the current
4.7 million sq.ft.
Only 7.1% of the projects registered
are certified.
