5. Girder Launcher
For different methods of bridge construction different types machine used. We considered only three types as followed:
Span by Span erection on False work.
Incremental Launching erection by Hydraulic system.
Progressive Placement erection by Launching gantry.
Span by Span erection on False work
Step-1: A firm base level surface has created using
compacted soil in between Piers.
Step-2: Temporary structure using steel scaffolding
has erected above compacted soil to provide support
during girder erection.
Step-3: Help of heavy duty crawler mounted crane
girder and deck is brought to it required erection
position.
Step-4: After Post-tensioning/final welding support
has been removed.
6. Incremental Launching erection by Hydraulic System
This method was used to push the steel road deck over bridge piers.
The trick was to use this launching system to jack up the deck and
inch it forward each system used two wedge shape log under each
side of the deck. The upper wedge was pulled by the hydraulic
round, its slide up the slope of the bottom wedge at same time
lifting up the deck by upper wedge at advancing it then lower wedge
retract dropping the deck to its support by upper wedge and
process repeats.
