TYPE OF CASE STUDY
2. INTRODUCTION:
It is a nonstandardised technique for collecting
information about individual in aspect of life. This
technique involves a comprehensive study of an
individual including in terms of his history from birth
onwards and an interpretation of the facts that have a
bearing upon his behavior.
3. DEFINITIONS OF CASE STUDY
• A comprehensive collection of all available
information social, psychological, biographical ,
environmental vocational that promise to explain a
single individual or a single social unit i.e Family
• Case study is a method of exploring and analyzing
the life of a social unit be that a person. A family an
institution , a cultural group or even an entire
community.
• It is a detailed study of an individual, conducted for
the purpose of bringing about better adjustment of
the person, who is the subject of investigation.

• Physicians
• Psychiatric social workers
• Teachers
• Other member of schools

1. Formal case study : It is made with an outline
in which all aspects of individual life are
included.
Outline :
• Statement of the purpose of case study
• Collection of data
• Identification of the individual i.e Biodata
• Family history
• Individual history Eg: Neighbour hood , Home
• Personality evaluation

9. 2. The informal case study
It does not require the detailed outline and
writing to the case material. In order to make
teaching effective and better understanding of
student. Teacher can use informal case study.
10. Advantages
• A good case study will make use of all possible factors
(eg. Physical mental ,social and emotional) which may
give clue to the problem behavior.
• It will be used as a tool of evaluation.
• It can be reliable.
• It leads teachers to be more aware of special problems
of individual childrens, thereby helping to weaken the
tendency to teach the same lesson to a whole class.
• Reality situations can be used.
• Used with regularity as a part of teaching process to
find out the causes and effect relationship.
• It helps to gain a better concept of normal behavior.
• Teachers will become sensitive to behavior symptoms
in all the childrens.
11. Limitations
• It is time consuming
• It may be too subjective
• The teacher may lack the necessary skills for
collecting and interpreting data.
12. 3 Descriptive case study
The case study is a form of descriptive research.
Although it consists of a vigorous ,detailed
examination of a single case, the underlying
assumption is that this case is an example of may
other such cases. Consequently indepth study of a
single case, a greater understanding about other
similar case is achieved. The purpose of case studies
to make generalization drawing conclusion from
case study is not justifiable.
13. 4. Historical case study
It emphasizes longitudinal or genetic approach,
showing development over a period of time. It is
concerned with everything that is significant if the
history of development of the case. The purpose is
to understand the life cycle of an individual unit, this
unit may be a person, a family, a group, a social
institution of an entire community.
14. This case study involves the collection and
analysis of many sources of information. It
consists of intensive study of a single unit, to
develop inside and knowledge of a general
nature and improved practice.
When we can pluck an example from the
past and use it to help us today that are very
practical use of history. A case, historically
scientific document, of any institution or
individual become inevitable.
15. Historical recharge is an accurate record of
how ,when and where the event started; How it
progressed and when it ceased. The historian
explains the event by describing the condition
which lead into it and out of which it grew.
16. INTEGRATED METHODOLOGY
FOR CASE STUDY
To gather valid and reliable information for a
case study and integrated methodology is applied.
The investigator conducts personal interviews,
search throw literacy sources materials and adapts
questionnaire method.
