Position Title: IT Analyst
Department: Technology
Reports To: Information Technology Director
JOB DEFINITION:
Under limited supervision, the IT Analyst advocates for user interests and involvement in the selection, development,
deployment, and ongoing operation of District IT systems. The position works closely with IT staff, users and business
partners to develop system and user documentation, configure system settings, define security roles, develop reports,
extract data, create interfaces, provide user training, maintain IT systems and assist with system updates. IT Analysts
may have tasks assigned by, or take direction from, IT management, IT Project Managers, IT Engineers or identified
leads.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The IT Analyst is the primary user liaison for the selection, development, deployment and operation of IT systems. The
position represents and advocates for user interests in the configuration and ongoing operation of management systems.
The position provides training, oversees user interest groups, communicates system changes, identifies issues, develops
documentation, and assures that users are familiar with system features that might improve productivity.
The IT Analyst works closely with IT staff in the setup and maintenance of IT software. The IT Analyst is a primary
ongoing contact with vendors. This position assists with the training of IT staff and provides level-two user support as
necessary. The position is responsible for working with users to assure data integrity, to extract information for state and
district reporting needs, and to design end user reports.
The IT Analyst maintains IT services and systems. The position is responsible for training school staff; for monitoring the
currency and content of information; for assuring that services meet the needs of the District and community; for assuring
that policies and procedures are followed; for chairing related committees; and for coordinating and implementing
upgrades and improvements with the vendor.
The position may work as part of a collaborative team with staff from other school districts or agencies to define necessary
system enhancements or modifications.
The IT Analyst may be assigned special projects, creating highly specialized start to finish IT solutions.
In some instances, the IT Analyst may directly support and maintain specific IT systems in their entirety.
Fulfills other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position may require work beyond the standard workday, on weekends or on-call. Travel to attend trainings,
meetings or to work with staff in other school districts may be required. Training that involves extended overnight stay in a
different city may be necessary. May be assigned to special project teams, including cross-functional and inter-
departmental teams housed at various and/or changing locations. Occasional lifting is necessary as part of the job
function as is the physical dexterity necessary to move, cable, connect, and perform repairs on equipment. Visual and
hearing requirements include the ability to read manuals, imprints, and serial numbers, the ability to monitor auditory
signals and alarms, the ability to maintain the voice and sound components of IT software and hardware, to enter problem
descriptions and documentation in systems, to keyboard, and the ability to speak in public and to work over the telephone
and video conferencing systems. The position may involve work around electrical services and occasional exposure to
high noise levels. The employee needs to be able to lift and maneuver materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 50

pounds. A driver’s license is necessary, as is limited use of a personal vehicle to move among work sites. Must be able to
drive on ice and snow in adverse weather conditions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
The position requires experience with the operation and configuration of complex IT systems. An understanding of
common work practices and work roles is important. Scripting, report development, knowledge of programing and system
administration and familiarity with applications and database development tools is desirable.
Skills & Abilities:
Skills in project management, data analysis, web technologies, system administration, programming, databases, student
information systems, financial systems, enterprise IT systems, state reporting procedures and report writing.

systems, financial systems, collaboration systems and other IT systems and applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The position requires completion of a four-year degree in Computer Science, or related field. Advanced training and/or
experience in computer science domains may be substituted for a formal degree. This includes a documented record of
progressively sophisticated learning, applied experience, certification programs, workshop participation, internships,
project management certifications and/or experience or applied experiences in complex IT environments. Successful
experience providing deep level support for technology users is necessary, as is a demonstrated ability to meet user
needs in a courteous, efficient, accepting and timely manner. Experience in providing training and interactive
communication to technology users is important. Currency of learning and continuing professional development are
foundational requirements. Certifications and licensure should correspond to technologies and processes currently in use
by Bend-La Pine Schools. That information is available by request.
