Very Good Buddy! You did great on the first task! But
I have a mission for today and I need your help.
Will you please read the story about “Pappy, the
Paper Bag” and answer the questions that follow?
I know you can do this Buddy! Thank you for your
help!
This is the simple
map of where I
live. Help me find
my way to the
different places on
the map.
I need someone to continue
walking with me because my
friend Totie abandoned me
on this mission - I was left
alone. Kindly use your
pointer finger as Bob, My
Reading Buddy.
You and I will walk
across Narra St. and
along the way, we
will see a river filed
with garbage and
plastic bags.
Oh, those plastic bags are
floating on the river! They
harm, they destroy our river.
The plastic bags cause
damage to our river - they
are contaminating our
water. They are making our
river dirty. We need to stop
at the Mayor’s office.
Give me time to
talk to the Mayor.
You and I continue walking
to our neighbors. We will
walk straight and then we
have to turn left. We are
now at our friend’s house.
We are very enthusiastic -
we felt excited and happy.
You and I continue walking
to our neighbors. We will
walk straight and then we
have to turn left. We are
now at our friend’s house.
We are very enthusiastic -
we felt excited and happy.
Oh, no! I think we have a problem
Buddy. There are some difficult words
you might encounter as you read the
story. But don’t you worry. I will help
you to unlock the unfamiliar words.
Now, let’s try to find out the meaning
of these words.

The man abandoned his old mother in the hospital. She was

Good job Buddy!
Now you are ready to read
the full story!
Have some fun while
reading.
Pappy, the Paper Bag
Plastic bags are used all over
the world to carry everyday items
such as bread, clothes, toys, and
lots of other things. But Pappy, the
hero of our story, wasn’t a plastic
bag like all the rest- he was a very
special paper bag. And Pappy had
a mission to complete.
Pappy knew that all over the world
there were millions of plastic bags that
had been abandoned by people. These
ended up floating in the seas and oceans
and contaminating the water. These
caused damage to the creatures that lived
nearby.
Pappy didn’t want things to go on this way.
So he came up with a plan to put an end to plastic
bags being thrown away. One day he went to visit a
big supermarket to talk to the manager.
“Hello Mrs. Manager, my name is
Pappy and as you can see, I’m a paper
bag. I want to suggest an idea to avoid
using plastic bags in shopping,”
“What? Have you gone mad?
Where else would people put
their things?”
“Very simple. My plan is to replace plastic
bags with paper ones like me because we
don’t pollute the environment. I’d also like to
suggest something else that we reuse both
plastic and paper bags instead of throwing
them away.
“That’s not a bad idea. But why
is it better to use paper bags
and reuse them?”
The manager of the big supermarket realized
that they were wasting resources, and that
this could be avoided. So, the following week,
only paper bags were given out to the
shoppers.
Pappy went all over the world – one supermarket at a time. He spread his message that we should
always re-use our bags, encourage recycling and look after the planet.
“Well, because first it would
mean fewer plastic bags
spoiling the environment. But it
would also save us money. We
would be reusing all our bags
without needing to buy new
ones,”
Nice one Buddy!
Thank you for reading the story
and I hope you enjoyed it.
Now, let’s try to answer these
questions.
1. What did people use to carry
everyday items such as bread,
clothes and other things?
Pappy went to a
big supermarket
and talked to the
manager.
2. Where did Pappy go to tell
the good news about paper
bags?
3. When is it necessary to
use paper bags?
when carrying
things or items
bought in the
supermarket
4. Pappy, the hero of the story had a
mission. Aside from it is an assignment
or a task, what is the other word for
mission?
job, operation
5. Pappy, the paper bag went to
the supermarkets all over the
world. What is the other word
for supermarket?

Good job Buddy! Your ability to
interpret simple maps of
unfamiliar places, signs and
symbols amazes me. Can you tell
us now, what have you learned for
today? You can start it now
What I have Learned
I have learned that map is a drawing of real
places. It guides us to find where places are
located with the help of the compass rose
which tells directions.
Pictures are being used on a map to represent
a word or group of words. They are called
symbols and a map key or legend is a list that
explains the symbols on a map.
Very well said Buddies! Your
answers are all correct. Both of
you are so amazing! By the way
Buddies, can I ask you a favor? I
just want to tell you that please
don’t forget what have you
learned, huh! Thank you!
