Evaluation Question 1
1. 1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS? (I.E. OF MUSIC MAGAZINES)
2. • I have stuck to some conventions in my magazine, for instance, I have my masthead in
the same position as the spin masthead, and I have the download in the top left corner.
However I have challenged it with that barcode, because the spin magazine does not
feature a barcode. I also challenged conventions with my model looking down, especially
seeing as he is a new artist, I got this idea from a magazine cover that ‘Crystal Castles’
were on, where they were both looking down.
3.
4. • In my contents page I followed conventions whilst at the same time remaining original in
the way I laid it out. As you can see I copied the ‘contents’ at the top but swapped the
layout of it around with the ‘CO’ and the ‘TS’ I also put the title ‘Mix’ behind this, this
follows the convention of the magazine I took inspiration from, because they put the ‘V’
there. Also the actual contents section is similar but just on the left hand side rather than
the right. I tried to keep my contents page neat and fairly Minimalistic, leaving space on
the right hand side.
5.
6. • The title of my magazine comes from the way the genre of my magazine is produced, for
example a finished song must be mixed and mastered, it also refers to the live sets when
DJs and producers perform live, they make ‘mixes’ so whatever way you read into the
magazines title you can see similarities between the genre and the title.
• I made my model wear blue because this suits the colour scheme of the magazine, this
worked well because the colour scheme and the clothes he is wearing match almost
perfectly, with the blue and white of his jacket and the black of his hair correlating to the
black text, white text and blue masthead, I also gave the background a slightly blue tint.
