MEDIA PRODUCTS ?

Question 1
4. WHAT CONVENTIONS HAVE YOU USED? DOES IT SUBVERT
CONVENTIONS OR CONFORM TO MAGAZINE CONVENTIONS?
INSERT IMAGES OF MAGAZINES YOU LOOKED AT.
• I mainly conformed to magazine conventions as majority of the key magazine themes and techniques I saw I
used on my own magazine. I used XXL magazine for inspiration as it was in the same genre as mine and the
layout was similar to the flat plan I had prepared so I found it good to use as a template
• My magazine conforms to conventions as it has the typical headline, masthead, sell lines and a button on the
front cover my contents has various traits from a typical magazine e.g. I used page no’s short synopsis’ of each
article inside my magazine I also had ISSUE 27 WINTER 2016.
• When I looked at XXL I found that they have there cover stories underlined with a thick red line however I found
that it would not fit with my magazine and I decide that I wanted each box to be inside a blue and black box so
this subverts to most of the contents pages I did look at for the making of my magazine
• I have used album reviews, giveaways as this conforms to what many magazines do as they give different
things to entice there customers to keep buying their product.
5. WHAT ANALYSIS OF EXISTING PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS
DID YOU DO? INSERT SCREEN GRABS OF YOUR BLOG
ANALYSIS.
For my research I analyzed RnB magazine that I had read previously I looked over magazines
like XXL , Respect. & a grime magazine called RWD using this helped me to see different
magazine layouts I think the one that helped me most was Respect. as it showed me that
magazine covers can be very simplistic if you have a good quality image
I also analyzed various contents pages from RnB magazines so that I could get an
understanding of them and also so I could use some of the conventions of it I used esquire and
a fashion magazine so I could see some similarities between the two and I was able to analyze
different color schemes and photography techniques. I recognised that most magazines use
warm colours in there magazines so I made a colour scheme that I could use for my magazine.
6. DOES YOUR MAGAZINE CLEARLY FIT INTO THE MUSIC
GENRE OR IT UNCLEAR WHAT GENRE IT IS?
INSERT IMAGES OF ARTISTS AND MAGS IN YOUR GENRE..
• I think my magazine does clearly fit into the RnB genre as I found that most RnB magazines have a
distinct look to them.
• In mine I decided that I want two models on my cover so I researched and found that one artist would be
shown to have a higher status than the other and that it was typically the man with the higher status but I
changed it as I wanted to change that so the woman on my front cover is shown to have a higher status
than in most RnB magazines like VIBE (Below).
• My magazine states big name RnB artists like Bryson Tiller, Drake & Jhene Aiko as I wanted the target
audience to associate my magazine with RnB as a genre and it helped a lot to do this.
7. HOW HAVE YOU USED MODELS AS MUSIC ARTISTS?
COMPARE YOUR IMAGES WITH REAL ARTISTS IMAGES.
• My models may not represent musicians very well as it could be hard to distinguish them as they are not
holding anything anything that could show they're RnB artists, for example a guitar or in some cases a
gun.
• I also found that many RnB artists have gold grills and teeth to show their wealth which I was unable to
do also they have no real coordination in their clothing if I was to do this again I would make sure that I
had complete control over clothing as well to give it a more professional look to it
8. HOW HAVE YOU USED PHOTOGRAPHY, EDITING AND MISE
EN SCENE? HOW HAVE YOU USED LAYOUT DESIGN?
• I used photography mainly on my dps to position my models in the right positions for the layout of my page
also on my front cover I had to make sure I used the right angles so no text(sell lines, cover story) would
cover my main image.
• I edited my pictures to add detail and depth to some of the pictures.
• Mise-en-scene was used to bring together the main image and the colour scheme of the text and masthead
.
I edited the background out as
I found it did not really fit with
the genre.
I had to position the
models so my text
wouldn't’t cover there
faces
