Photography Plan
1. Unit G321 – Foundation Portfolio in Media – Photo-shoot Plan
Project title: Recoil Music Magazine
Photographer:
The photographers working on this project will be myself and James
Pickering who is a photography student.
Technical Codes - Close ups, medium close ups and full body shots will be
used in my magazines cover and within the magazine.
Lighting – The lighting will mainly be low key and medium key to create
a darker atmosphere appropriate to the genre. Some high key photos will
also be taken and will be used within the magazine to contrast the low
key photos.
Post Production – I don’t plan on using too many effects but I will play
around with the amount light in the photos and I may use some blurring
effects.
The front cover will be a medium close up, then a close up for my editor
photo, and medium close ups for my contents page banner and for the
image on my double page spread.
Project Title: This title is inspired by the bold title of “Kerrang!” magazine. It is
designed to jump out of the page and fit in with my magazines genre, which is
rock music. The denotation for the name of my magazine is Recoil. This connotes
to the energy a gun has after it has been shot so my magazine is like the energy
behind rock music. I will be producing 4 pages for my first issue.
Project Description: I am producing a rock music magazine inspired by
“Kerrang!” It is a monthly magazine but for my first edition I will only be
producing 4 pages, which includes the front cover, contents page and a double
page spread.

Reference images and ideas:
The ideas for my magazine have all come from my magazine of inspiration
“Kerrang!” I have used this as a source to branch ideas off for my own magazine
as they are aimed at the same audience and will share very similar content.
Casting:
Suitable person for front cover:
I will feature on the cover of the magazine in a medium close up shot as I feel I
have the correct look as I have long hair. I feel that with the right clothing I can
look like a rock star.
Model requirements:
The kind of people that I need don’t have to be a specific height but they
should be in their late-teens and be dressed like a typical band member to
look the part for my magazine. They may also require some props to aid
the fact that they are portrayed as legitimate band members.
They should be like how I described on my audience profile.
Wardrobe and Look:
Band t-shirt
Beanie
Check over shirt
Skinny Jeans
Prop e.g. drum
sticks
Where:
Photos will be taken in school where there is the necessary equipment and
facilities such as the photography studio and the music rooms where there is
musical instruments and equipment.
When:
In the afternoon so that there is natural light and then I can additionally play
around with the light on photo editing software. The first photos will be taken on
the week beginning Monday 16th of November.
