2. Architecture is the art of designing and
constructing structures and other environment
features.
Architecture, the art and technique of
designing and building, as distinguished from
the skills associated with construction. The
practice of architecture is employed to fulfil both
practical and expressive requirements, and thus
it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends.
3. The San Agustin Church in Manila, also known as the Church of the
Immaculate Conception of San Agustin was the first church built on the island
of Luzon in 1571.
4. The Santa Maria Church is located in the municipality of Santa Maria, Ilocos
Sur. Unlike other town churches in the Philippines, which conform to the Spanish
tradition of sitting them on the central plaza, the church of Nuestra Señora de la
Asuncion in Santa Maria with its convent are on a hill surrounded by a defensive wall.
5. The Paoay Church, also known as the Church of San Agustin, is located in Paoay,
Ilocos Norte. It is the most outstanding example in the Philippines of an Earthquake
Baroque style architecture.
6. Banaue Rice Terraces in an example of indigenous architecture. The terraces
were skilfully carved into the mountains by our indigenous ancestors. The
terraces known worldwide as the “ Eighth Wonder of the World”, were built with
minimal equipment and by hand.
7. In the Philippines, Pablo Antonio(1901-1975, a Filipino architect; a
pioneer of modern Philippine architecture and was recognized as the
foremost Filipino modernist of his time rose into existence.
The Manila Central Post Office was designed by Juan M. Arellano
and Tomas Mapua, the post office building was built in neoclassical
architecture in 1926. Considered to be Juan Arellano’s magnum opus or
the most important work.
Leandro V. Locsin was another modern architect who shaped
Filipino Architecture. During his career, he built five churches, over 30
different building, over 70 residences, and major landmarks in the
Philippines including the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
