1. • It is estimated that around 37.7 million Indians are affected by waterborne diseases annually,.
• 1.5 million children are estimated to die of diarrhoea alone and 73 million working days are lost due to
waterborne disease each year.
• The resulting economic burden is estimated at $600 million a year.
• The problems of chemical contamination is also prevalent in India with 1,95,813 habitations in the
countrare affected by poor water quality.
• The major chemical parameters of concern are fluoride and arsenic.
Towards Cleaner India:
Providing clean drinking
water and proper
sanitation facility to all
Lack of awareness
Poor implementation of laws related to river contamination
Unavailability of toilets
Industrial waste improper disposal
Continuous fall of ground water level
ignorance
However, 54 percent of the total population, including 18 percent of urban and 69 percent of rural Indians,
didnot have any access to toilets, while the remaining 15 percent of the d total population had access only
to unimproved toilets (JMPDWSS, 2010).
2. Unavailability
of Toilets
& their
maintenance
Management of
Industrial
Wastes
• Policy making and strong implementation
• Separate ministry
• Fast track courts to deal with such cases
• Installation of waste disposal plants in industrial
hubs eg. Hugli,mumbai-pune etc .
• Mainly we encourage technology, to be used to
improve the toilet facility.
• Urine battery can be used, currently there are many
prototype urine batteries, 1.5V , and running for 90
minutes.
• Also we can use the technology to deal with the
human faeces. There are some experiments going on
with poop grinder, which will disinfect the human
excreta, which later can be used as fertilizer or any
other purpose.
Surface water & ground water would
not get polluted.
Sanitation will be maintained & health problems
will decrease, which will save a huge money of
people.
3. Implementation
Sewage line construction everywhere
Awareness programmes in rural areas by the teacher there only
Chapter included in books related awareness
Sanitation- tenders for toilets construction
Poop grinding machines used for dealing with human excreta.
Urine battery cell used for driving motor of poop grinder.
There are 7 industrial hubs in india – hugly , mumbai-pune,
ahmedabad-vadodra, madurai-coimbatore-bangalore, chhota
Nagupu plateau, delhi & adjoining industriial region, minor industrial
Regions.
There would be 5 branches in each hub. So total 35 branches will be there.
• For poop grinder, the initial setup
cost is around Rs. 25k, and later the
electricity cost is around Rs 50 only.
And it can be installed for every 10-
15 houses of urban areas.
• No need of water.
• The disinfected poop will be total
safe, and can be used for various
other purposes.
Based on international evidence, even locally-
implemented toilet and hygiene interventions could
have saved $32.6 billion in india, equivalent to 3.9%
of GDP annually; a potential gain of $29 per capita.
4. For Industries
Per branch Hierarchy
1 Head, 2 inspection officer, 7 technical officers, 1 law consultant
Annual income budget for the whole association –
1x8 lpa + 2x6 lpa + 7x3.5 lpa + 1x4 lpa = 48.5 lpa
Intial Installation cost - 1000 Crore
Total annual estimate – 30 Crore approx
In case of toilets
Per toilet, estimate Rs 50k including the setup of urine battery & poop grinder.
Each toilet will be on 10 houses.
Each toilet will be maintained by a local, being paid for it.
Total estimate cost - $1 billion

6. • If these solution will be implemented, surely the quality of water will be
improved.
• Sanitation facilities will be improved.
Impact
7. Many people do not realize the health and economic benefits to the individual,
the community and to
society from improving sanitation. The high cost of improving sanitation is
often cited as a barrier to
implementing sanitation projects. Improving sanitation is often low on the list
of priorities. There are so
many other pressing needs for the attention of governments: food supply,
education, medical treatment
and dealing with war and conflict. Most people are aware that poor sanitation
has a health impact, but
there is a lack of awareness of the extent of ill-health that it causes.
Mitigation Factors
8. in India , excreta use is generally regarded as culturally unacceptable, or at
best with indifference. This results from the strongly held view that human
excreta, especially faeces, are repugnant substances best kept away from
the senses of sight and smell.
Products fertilized with raw excreta are regarded as tainted or defiled in
some way. These views are less rigid in the case of using excreta in
compost and sludge for agriculture, but still pose a barrier to use of
waste.
