Personal statement
University does 2 primary things for students.Improving their ability, and opening connections.And I would like to get both from a
university that I would like to go to. Improving me techniques would be the main criteria which incentivises me to approach a university.
Being shown differentways to create and advertise products is incentivising for me to look for a good university.
The other reason Iwould look for a university is to make connections with other students and staffat the university, this i s too finding
other people who are aiming to take the same graphic design/advertising route as me.This can improve my quality of work as it will
allow me to work as a team and not justby myself.
My years in secondaryschool allowed me to take applied business as one ofmy chosen subjects.Ihad a fantastic teacher who
inspired me to delve deeper into the subject.And I continued the course into my first year at college.
Lastyear at college I began leaning Media studies.From notpicking up any media program or understanding ofthe subject the year
before, to having an established understanding in a media perspective.I enjoy the creative opportunities thatmedia studies offers to
me.How I can create anything I want on photoshop for example.I really enjoyed the time I spenton my Final project lastyear before it
got cancelled.It opened my eyes into the possibilities thatmedia studies as a subjectand create for me,in a cre ative light.
Café work/food hygiene – Working a job I got paid for taught me discipline and working in a team,as well as customer relations from
the employee side ofthe business.Ihave always had good customer service because I've never been afraid to talk to people. I also
received a distinction in speaking while in secondaryschool. Displaying thatI'm not afraid to talk to others in any situation.
Media studies level 2 – studying media studies has been an eye-opening experience for me.Ive learned a lot over the pastyear and its
continued to inspire me to think out of the box in a creative manner. I wantto continue and progress myexperience to a university
course.I aim to go into social media and private entrepreneurship,on a platform like YouTube. This would help with video editing.
However, I have also looked at taking a more graphical approach to media studies,in an area like advertising.Lastyear I co vered a
range of subjects in media,from newspapers to music videos.And from the differentsubjects Ifeel mostcomfortable in gra phic design.
Like logo design,or advertising.
I wantto adventure into a few different markets,which all consistofmedia work:
YouTube – YouTube is a big stretch when it comes to developing a productthat people want to watch. However, I have watched
YouTube for a long time, and I would like to create content which I think will be interesting.This would be helpful to use some new
techniques thatI can learn in the next year of college and a few years at university.
Instagram.social media advertising:advertising on social media has been on the rise as oflate, and using mymedia project skills,I can
target adds correctly to customers.
Logo/Brand awareness:Media has a large impacton creating a brand look. The way you colour and texture your business can really
impactthe way customers view your products.And Media has opened myeyes to the different possibilities in logo creation.
University – going to university for continuing my media course is also a good option for me.It will expose me to different techniques
and ideas which I otherwise wouldn’thave access to outside ofa university. A university also gives me the opportunityto connect with
people who can further my future. Connecting me to people in other areas which mightbe useful for me.
Private/ partnered entrepreneur - Private or partnered entrepreneur in subjects like graphic design or advertisement is also another
route I can take. This would be something Ipursue after university or college once I have a greater and rooted understanding ofmedia
as a subject.
Outside of college,I'm interested in 3 subjects:

2. 1 - Café/front-of-house.This includes things like communication with customers and creating and inviting and comfortable environment
for customers. Looking into whatworks with customers outlook on a café/business and whatdoesn’t.
2 – YouTube and social media.Growing up in the age of computers and the developmentofsocial media exposed me to the impactit
had on my generation and the generation before.As well as this,I have a young half-brother who is growing up in the postcomputer
age, and it's interesting to understand whatimpactithas on younger generations.
3 – Swedish.I spentmy mid-teen era growing up in contact with people of similar age,butwho lived in Sweden rather than the UK. It
provided a separate opinion ofpolitical and cultural subjects which Iotherwise wouldn’thave access to if I only knew people from the
UK. I also spenta part of my life learning the language as itinspired me to take another perspective on these said subjects in their
native language.It was also interesting to be semi-bilingual.Learning the language mightalso provide me with some opportunities in
Sweden itself.
Further education will however open connections for me.The different people I meetin a university will all have differentsubjects that
they are specialised in.It's good to understand whateach person is appreciate whateach person can bring to me as a connection,on a
business and personal level.
Having a university degree will justify my work because ifI can get a degree in a Media subject,then I will look more professional. My
work will otherwise look second class and unprofessional compared to someone else with a degree in media.
I will enjoy further studies,because there are plenty of subjects within media which inspire m e.Continuing mymedia understanding will
develop me as a person on how I look at Media as a whole.And furthering my learning will help me to build my understanding ofwhat I
want to do after I finished mycourse. Finding new techniques and outlooks is another reason whypeople go to university, and an
encouraging reason for me.
