Costume - Black leather jacket
With the song’s theme being about
the artist refusing to conform to the
pop genre, the inclusion of this
costume allows this theme to be
evoked as the artist refuses to
conform to the normal genre
conventions. The audience, while
not all wearing this item of clothing,
would be able to relate to the
message behind the apparel and the
concept of rebellion. This item of
clothing will be thrown on during
the second chorus as the character
establishes his rebellion against the
pop genre. There may be some
ripping on the jacket to highlight
this, however there is no way of
determining this until the shoot as
this item of apparel belongs to the
actor.
Costume – Black jeans
This item of clothing will be worn
throughout the video. While it doesn’t
link to any aspect of the genre, this
item of clothing is fairly neutral and
allows for easy changes to be made to
the plot. As most members of the
audience will have worn this item of
clothing in every day life, the audience
will be able to relate to the clothing,
especially the younger audience
members. As stated previously, this
item of clothing will be worn
throughout the entire video as general
trousers. Whether or not this item of
clothing will be ripped, like the leather
jacker, will depend on the actors
wishes at the time of the shoot.
Costume – White t-shirt
This white t-shirt will be worn throughout the video.
It has been chosen due to it’s neutral appearance,
allowing it to blend in easily and not conform to any
genres as per the song’s message. The white also
symbolises purity, which is a concept that is
commonly explored within the pop genre. As the
song aims to oppose genre ideals, this could be seen
as a method of mocking. The aim of the narrative is
to have the artist cut it up in order to goes against
the genre and the music industry. As this item of
clothing will be owned by me, this will go ahead.
Again, as this is a common piece of casual clothing,
the vast majority of the audience will be able to
relate to this item of clothing.
Costume – Doc Martens
These boots will be worn for the entirety
of the video. This will be used to show the
defiance of the artist against the pop
genre. It will also allow the artists image
to remain stylish and on trend as this
particular brand of boots are high fashion.
As this a popular choice of clothing among
the younger audience members, this may
relate more to the teenage audience.
However it may allow the older members
of the audience to be nostalgic of their
past. They will just be normal boots with
no identifiable features and will be worn
with their laces undone to symbolise
rebellion.
Costume – black floral dress
This is the costume that Holly will wear
during her appearances in the video.
The black dress is a common
fashionable item that is known for it’s
versatility and practicality. The fact that
it is floral links to traditional ideas of
femininity and elegance – an aesthetic
that is commonly associated with Grace
Kelly and Mika . Older members of the
audience may be able to relate to this
costume as it will reminds them of the
‘Golden Age of Cinema’. While younger
members of the audience won’t
outrightly relate to the costume, they
may recognise it and may find it visually
pleasing. It will also pay homage to the
pop genre which started in this decade
– thus relating it to the genre. As this is
a favourite dress of the actress, this will
be kept in good, neat condition and will
not be spoilt.
