American movies and TV in the 1950s influenced fashion trends among young people. Films starring James Dean, Marlon Brando and Elvis Presley popularized styles like jeans, leather jackets, and flashy suits. Meanwhile, Marilyn Monroe's platinum blonde curls and pinup look from the 1940s remained very influential. Audrey Hepburn also had a large fashion impact from films like Breakfast at Tiffany's, making little black dresses and ballet flats trendy choices. Her clean lines and blending of feminine and masculine styles made her a timeless fashion icon.

new fashion ideas to the masses
and prompted many yonnug
people to copy the fashion of
their favirote movie stars. The

‘Classic Hollywood Glamour’.

Marlon Brando starred as misunderstood motirbike punk in the film The Wild One, dressed
in blue jeains and a leather jacket. James Dean was similarly dressed in his film Rebel Without A
Cause. Together, Dean and Brando inspired a generation of younug men to emulate their attiude
and style. Jeans, leather, oots and a white t-shirt fast became a symbal of teenage rebellion for boys.
Of course, not all teenage boys adapted that look. Elvis Persley’s style also struck a chord with
the teen market. Long sideburns, bright colours and sharp, flashy suits were very trendy.
the pin-up look
Arguably the most iconic bombshell of
all time, Marilyn Monroe had a style
that is undoubtedly one of the most
emulated. In the 1950s, Marilyn’s sig-
nature platinum coif combined 1940s
pinup waves and big curls that stopped
just above the shoulders. This style
maintained just as much definition at
the bottom as it did at the top, with a
part far to the left side and a long raised
bang. Made popular 60 years ago, this
style still appears at nearly every major
Hollywood event.
