2. Camera
• In our construction of our three products, the music video, digipak and magazine advert, we
used the Nikon D5000 camera to film and photograph these three elements.
• Adjusting the aperture was extremely important when evaluating how we used the
equipment to capture the shots for the digipak and magazine advert. This came into hand
when taking a focus pull XCU of the artists face and hand. Both images relied heavily on
the lighting which we used, however the aperture allowed me to control the amount of light
travelling into the image when clicking the capture button.
• As the camera man, I also have a zoom lens which I used to create focus pulls to focus in
on certain objects such as the artist and the fire with the background blurred which was also
aided later on in the editing phase of our ancillary production.
3. Final Cut Professional X
• Final Cut was the editing software we used to edit the music video. This software was extremely helpful and as this was the
new addition of final cut and I had previously used premiere pro during my AS level project, I found this software to be
very user friendly after spending numerous hours editing. Some of the main tools frequently used was the blade and
able/disable tool. As this project was a music video, fast montage editing is required to the blade tool allowed me to cut up
base tracks once synced up to the sound track which meant I could then able and disable different clips to create a fast
paced editing sense in the convention of a music video editing style.
• Another predominant tool we used was the fade and the speed ramp tool to show the first few shots of narrative to paint
an image in the viewers head of the foreshadowed story. The speed ramp tool allowed me to slow down argument shots
between the artist and his lover followed by her storming out of the front door with the fade transition connecting them all
together. This gave the first section of narrative a sense of continuity showing how the fade represents past memories as if
the artist was being reflective at the start of the music video.
• One of the last main editing tools we used on Final Cut Pro X was the grey scale effect over the shots. We used this editing
technique to differ the scenes with fire in them to the rest of the performance and narrative shots. This was a good way of
portraying the USP of our artist and keeping it as a recurring motif and theme with our digipak and magazine advert as
well.
