2. CANON 550D
This particular camera is known for its excellent image quality and HD video which is a positive
aspect for a music video. The camera comes with a 18.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and 1080p HD
video recording (this displays the HD quality I will be able to shoot in and therefore this will
result in me having a professional music video. The camera also comes with a quick control
screen which means I will be able to manage the settings easily and get the kind of shots I want
to. Furthermore, with his particular camera, I will be able to use the shallow focus which can be
included in my video. When it comes to reviews about this Canon 550D, it has been said to be
great for low light shots which means I will also be able to shoot in darkness without much
trouble to create a great looking effect in the video. Even though I have experienced in using the
camera before in my GCSE and A-Level Media Studies, I may feel comfortable with handling this
equipment however, it will be difficult to discover how other features in the camera can be
worked and used in my music video.
3. Tripod
The tripod will be a big part when I shoot the music video without the use of handheld
movement and get the camera to be stabilised. With the use of a tripod, I will be able to easily
fit everything in the frame without the camera shaking and can also be easier to see what I want
to see in the shot. The purpose of having a tripod is to allow the cinematographer to pan, shoot
or tilt the camera for a smooth movement and this technique will enable me to give my music
video a professional look. Moreover, the tripod I will be having the access to can be adjusted
according to the shot I want for example – a low angle or a high angle shot. This is very
important as it would be under movement and can be effective for the music video. Although
tripods are easy to use, it may not be useful to be using it in a place where there’s a lot of wind
as it may damage the tripod and the camera. Testing the equipment can be beneficial so it can
be taken into action when it comes it comes to recording the music video.
4. Software Programme – Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems for Windows
and OS X. Photoshop will be used a lot during my project as it can be used for touch-ups,
removing backgrounds and changing the colours of the images. With my previous experience in
Photoshop, I will be able to use these useful techniques for my music video. The whole purpose
to use Photoshop is to design my two ancillary tasks which are the digipak and the album advert.
Although Adobe has the same features in all of their editing versions, it will be useful when it
comes down to the editing process where I will be able to use different tools and layers in order
to make my work look presentable and professional. Some of the features Photoshop include
are: Pen Tool, Magic Wand, the Eraser, Cropping and Slicing. Even though Photoshop is known
for editing images, it can now edit videos with the new features which have been added by the
Adobe Systems. In GCSE and AS-Level, I had the time to experience in how to use Photoshop
when I designed a music magazine cover and this will able me to put in all the ideas I have into
this music video which I will be making.
5. Lighting
Lighting is a major equipment when it comes to recording a HD quality music video. There are a
lot of different types of lighting which 3 of them are the ones everyone is familiar with – Key
Light, Fill Light and Back Light. In school, I will be able to have the access to use the digital,
battery powered key rear and fill LED lights which can be adjusted according to the height. The
more light the Cannon 550D takes in, the better the quality of the video will be and this is why I
am tempted to use as many lightings as possible to give out a HD quality result.
