Welcome everyone and learn
something new about
colleagues;
Understand the principles of
constructive dialogue for an
effective team.
11. Instructions:
1.The group will be in the boat, the boat developed a
leak and is sinking fast;
2.There is only one lifeboat and it will accommodate
only “five people” – not more than can fit and there
are no more life jackets in the boat;
3.The group will come to an agreement as to which
of the people gets to go in the life boat and be
saved;

4. They must also list those they save in order of
importance because if they run out of food and water the
“less important people” will have to be dumped
overboard;
5. The group can include a priest/pastor, a pregnant
woman, powerful leaders of political parties, a physician;
6. The group is only given 3 minutes to work out on their list
and plan;
A representative of the group will present their output.

Negotiation often fails because each
participant wants to get his or her way. A
better method may be to first learn the needs
and intents of others. Understanding fosters
a spirit of cooperation and therefore
agreement.
