2. Mental Health Nursing
•Psychiatric nursing deals with the promotion
of mental health,prevention of mental
illness,care and rehabilitation of mentally ill
individuals both in hospital and community.

CLASSIFICATION OF DISEASE )
This is WHO classification for all diseases and
mental health realted problems.The chapter F
classifies psychiatric disorders as mental and
behavioral disordes and codes them on an
alphanumeric system from F00 to F99.

• ORGANIC MANTAL DIORDERS
• Eg delirum and dementia

• Behavior disorder due to psychoactive substance use

12. Defination
• Defense machanisms are methods of attempting to
protect self and cope with emotionally painful thought
fellings or event.The purpose of defense mechanism is to
reduce or eliminate the anxiety.

•Repression
•Denial
•Displacement
•Rationalization
•Compensation
•Projection
14. Repression:
• Unconscious and involuntary forgetting of painful
ideas and events.
•Denial:
• Unconscious refusal to admit an unacceptable to
admit idea or behavior.
15. Displacement:
• Unconsciously discharging pent up fellings to a
less threatening object.
•Rationalization:
It is a process in which an individual justifies his
failure and socially unacceptable behavior by
giving socially approved reasons.
16. Compensation:
• Consciously covering up for a weekness by over
emphasizing or making up a desirable trait.
•Projection:
• Unconsciously or consciously blaming someone
else for one’s difficulties.
18. Maladaptive behavior:
• Maladaptive behavior are those that stop you
from adepting to new or difficult
circumstances.They can start after major life
change ,illness or traumatic event.It could also be
a habit you picked up at an early age.You can
identify maladaptive behavior and replace them
with more productive ones.
19. STRESS:
•Change in the internal/external
environment causes stress and an organism
has to adapt to it survive.The stimuls
precending or precipiting the changes are
called stressors.
20. Crisis:
• Crisis is a disturbance caused by stressful event or
perceived threat.The person usual way of coping
becomes ineffective in dealing with the
threat,causing anxiety.
