3. NO EDITING
In the film ‘Arrival of the train’ there is no editing used as you can see in this still it is all in black and white. The reason why they
didn’t have editing in this movie is because they didn’t know anything about editing such as fast cutting rate or different types of
transections that are used in modern day movies now. In this film there is only one shot being used which is a continuous shot
and the camera is placed in one place throughout the whole film. If they did know abut editing they could of used different types
of shots such as close ups and mid- shots, splicing and fad in and out. If they had used these editing techniques it would of made
the film more engaging.
4. The lumiere brothers made the film called‘ Arrival of the train’. This film was about factory workers who had finished their work, In this
film people are waiting for a their train, the train comes and get on the train. The Limiere brothers had recorded daily life in a camera
which was a very interesting thing for people in that time because people hadn’t seen it on a screen and some hadn't seen this scene
in their life.
ACTUAL EVENTS
This is screen shot of the train
arriving at the platform and
the people walking towards
the train to get on.
This screen shot shows people try to get
on the train. This is an actual event; the
Limiere brothers didn’t get people to
act like they are were getting on the
train, t hey are already waiting for the
train.
This picture shows a
picture of the train
platform where the train
is arriving on.
5. NO NARRATIVE
The film had no narrative, all that was shown was a load of people waiting for a train, the train comes and the
people get on the train. This is shown in the pictures below from picture 1 being the beginning to picture 2 being
the ending. There are many problems with not having a narrative for example no narrative means that the audience
watching don’t know what's going on. Another reason why is because it does not have a structure that anyone can
follow, it makes the film boring; however in Melies time it was a very big and interesting which made it good
enough for people.
