1. 1) In what way does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. My trailer, I believe does conform to the conventions of horror movies, however I also believe that my trailer does challenge
conventions as well.
Storyline:
• It challenges it since it revolves around the killer and
her story rather than the victims, which is not seen
much in horror movies, also my trailer shows the
killer in a vulnerable light, and I hope makes the
audience feel sorry for her slightly. I believe both go
against the usual conventions of a horror movie.

3. LIGHTING
• Lightings in horror trailers have a mixture of dark scenes and
lighter scenes. This is create an effect. If there is a dark scene
the audience knows something bad is about to happen and a
lighter scene will suggest the characters are not in danger and
the moment.

4. House of Wax
• As seen in the house of wax trailer, there is a mixture
of dark and light scenes to express the feeling of
movie at that moment; serious or not.

5. SAW 2
• These two pictures display how lighting in used in
SAW2. However, the scenes in Saw2 are all pretty
dark and dull to highlight the mood of the entire
movie, but still uses lighter scenes at certain points.

6. INSIDIOUS
• Again these two pictures shows how lighting is
important in a trailer. Overall, the trailer is quite dull
and some points dark and fewer points light.

7. POSSESSION
• To follow the conventions of a usual horror trailer I
have included dark scenes and light scenes. The
scenes below express that the dark scenes is when
something bad is happening, and the lighter scenes is
when the action has calmed down.

8. EDITING
• The way most trailers are edited are with fast paced
cuts to show the action and t give the effect that it is
going very fast, but I have also slow paced cuts to
show the story and the leading up to the action.
I have followed this convention by using many fast
paced cuts. I used a few fade in’s and out’s when
something bad was happening to emphasize it.

9. These images how the production company of the movie which is
usually near the beginning of the trailer.

10. I followed the convention, and invented my own
production label. I put a distorted picture behind and
put ‘distorted pictures’ on top of it

11. These two movies show when the movie will be release.
They put it at the end of the trailer, so the audience
remember it as it is the last thing they see.

12. I again followed the convention, but I did it
on a only a black screen and white writing.

13. For my music, I didn’t only use scary and action music, I also used slow and sad music to show
the atmosphere and the mood of the main character.
