2. GOODNIGHT MOMMY 2015
The opening shot of Goodnight Mommy
is a establishing shot. This sets the scene
for the audience and shows them where
the film is being set.
The sound in the background is diegetic
and could be heard by characters if they
were there. The sound is of birds tweeting
and the nature suggests that it is pleasant
scene and it is relaxing.
The shot also shows the isolation of the
house and how it is on its own in the
middle of nowhere. Possibly suggesting to
the audience how creepy it is and ask why
there is no one else around.
3. The slow camera shots and establishing shots early on show the audience what
is happening in the trailer and allow the audience just enough time to be able
to take in what is happening and for them to understand what is happening
early on.
Camera work and editing play a role throughout the trailer, the pace of the
editing changes throughout the piece, however, the main change isn’t until
near the end of the trailer. The trailer starts off slow, with the camera shots
staying on the same piece for a large amount of time. This is done to build the
tension up and it really starts to scare the audience due to it being
uncomfortably slow. It doesn’t feel right for a film to be that slow.

4. This slow pace then runs throughout a lot of the piece, until around 2
minutes in. By having the editing slow and staying on the same piece of
footage for a large period of time it allows the audience to take in every bit of
detail and start to question some of the things they are seeing. Although the
audience will see that the mother is the scary character and very freaky. The
strange ways of the boys and that they are willing to kill or terrorize the mum
can make the audience possibly question who in the piece is the real evil one.
By doing this it gets the thoughts running in the mid of the audience and
makes them want to go and watch the film to find out who is the evil person
in the film.

Goodnight Mommy has very good
use of Intertitles. These have been
used to show the audience reviews of
the film by other people. This makes
the audience see that the other people
are enjoying the film and that it would
be good to go and watch at the
cinema. The intertitles have also been
used to split the piece up and build
tension in the audiences mind as they
want to see what happens next but an
intertitle makes the pause and the
tension builds.
6. THE CARRIER 2015
The trailer for The Carrier starts off
straight away with the production
companies of the film to let the
audience know who produced the
film. This is done for advertising for
the company and to attract audience
members who may have enjoyed other
films produced by Evoltionary Films.
This is then followed by the other
producer of the film.
7. This is then followed by a establishing shot of a plane in the sky, this sets the
scene for the audience and shows the plot. But being quite a strange place to
set the scene, it straight away gets the audience thinking about why they have
set it in the plane and the reason for it.
The long establishing shot is then followed by a panning shot inside of the
aircraft, it shows the empty plane and then pans to the left to show one lone
passenger who is injured or dead in a seat. This shot is then accompanied by
what sounds like a news broadcast that is diegetic sound suggesting that there
is no cure. This connotes to the audience that there is a disease effecting the
world in the film and get them wanting to know more about this and effect it
is happening. This gets them involved in the film and wanting to know more
straight away.

8. Following the general rule of horror trailers, the first 30seconds to 45 seconds of
the trailer starts off very slow, with slow editing between the clips. However, there
is some different cutting techniques used in the clip. One of these is flickering
jump cuts. This gives the audience the sensation that what is going on in the clip
(This case a disease) could be flickering and spreading around and to the audience
member. This gives the film a sense of realism and can play on the phobias of
many people who may fear a deadly disease taking over the world.
After around 45 seconds, the pace of the editing starts to pick up and this is
joined by the shots having more action in them. These to sections joined together
increases the tension and can really get the audiences attention and their focus on
the trailer. It is normally accompanied by a fast tempo piece of music that will also
get the audience going.

9. The Carrier also uses another technique that is common in horror movie
trailers. Intertitles. The intertitles that have been used in the Carrier trailer
have been used to show reviews of the film and promote itself in a positive
light. This makes people who are watching the film see that some people have
rated the film well and that the complete film is interesting to watch.
Hopefully, by putting in the reviews it will make other people pay the money
to go to the cinema and watch the film.
