civil rights leader and activist who had a great deal of
influence on American society in the 1950s and 1960s.
3. Martin Luther King sought to raise the public
consciousness of racism.
4. His goal was racial equality and campaigns were held
for equal rights for African American.
5. In 1955, King became involved in his first major civil
rights campaign in Montgomery, Alabama, where
buses were racially segregated.
