The pitch for still here
1.
2. The sub genre that we are going to be doing is A psychological
thriller.
The plot for our film will show the strong bond between two
brothers. However one day two brothers Michael and Cal are
messing around by the road and Michael pushes Cal a bit to
hard. Cal then falls into the road and gets hit by a car and dies.
After Cal's death, Michael keeps seeing Cal around in his mind.
Michael finally asks himself why Cal is haunting him. Cal reply's
with find the person that left me for dead.
The themes within a psychological thriller are… reality,
perception, mind, purpose, identity, death.
Working title: Still here.
3. The Interior places we will film are inside the
college E.G corridors and classrooms. We will also
be using Castlefield house. In there we will be
using the bathroom, bedroom and the stairs.
The Exterior place we will be filming on is the
main road just outside of college as well as the
college field.
The places we made need to ask permission for is
any empty classrooms and castlefield house.
4. Character 1: Michael
Lamar - Is 17 year old twin brother who enjoyed school until his
brother died. Uses exercise to get over his stresses
Character 2 : Cal
Marcus – Michaels twin brother who is also 17, dedicated to his
family, loves to mess around with his bro.
Character 3 : Leah
Emilie - she is a background character who will communicate with
Leah, her best friend to make it seem like Micheal is going crazy
Character 4 : Millie
Holly- Will be asking Leah what happened to help the audience
figure out the story.
5. Young people- portrayed in a positive way as it shows them
being friendly towards each other and having a true connection
with the brothers.
Males- portrayed positively as the brothers are shown to
genuinely care about each other so much so that after he is gone he
still believes that he is still here.
Females- portrayed positively as she is shown to care about her
friend and asks if he is ok.
Genre- usually in these genres women are the victim and men are
the villains. In this case it is different at this point in the film there
is no villain
Society- in society men are more violent than women and this is
shown in out film when they are messing about and he gets pushed
in the road.
6. Act 1:
In act 1the audience see the first sighting of the dead body, the titles
and how alone Michael is. The audience also find out the a boy had
died in a car crash.
Act 2
In act 2 the pieces start to add up when we see Michael looking at a
picture of him and his brother. He then has a nightmare/throwback of
his brothers death and how he pushed his brother on the road by
accident, then a car runs Cal over and kills him
Act 3
In act 3 the audience see that Michael keeps seeing his dead brother
Cal appearing in different places. Michael is freaked and try to run
away from it. He asks why his brother is doing this, in which his
brother reply's “Find the person that left me for dead”… the film
opening then ends on a cliff hanger.
A key dramatic moment is the dream/ Throwback when the
audience will be left on the edge of their seats as you watch Cal get
run over.
7. Genre conventions-
We will have lots of changes in camera angles ranging from close ups,
medium shot, wide shot.
We will includes lots of Low key lighting where suitable
We will also include quick cuts and shadows where possible
Have lots of different views and perspectives
Attracting target Audience-
The way in which we will catch the audience attention Is by creating lots of
enigma and action codes leading the audience to think about what’s going
on. We will also make our opening relatable to the audience by showing the
loving connection between the two brothers. However as well as making it
relatable we will provide escapism, therefore they will be watching the
opening rather then thinking about their day to day lives. Because it is
aimed at 15-25 year olds it will be relatable to lots of people around the late
teens because it is focused on two people who are teenagers.
Mood/Atmosphere creation-
The atmosphere and mood will be sad because everyone will be feeling
sorry for Michael being alone and not having a brother. It will also get very
tense as the film opening goes on with all the times he sees Cal.
8. Setting – It will be the middle of the day at college. It will be around the
college and the outside roads to college keeping it very simple and all very
close together.
Props-The props that we will be using are a couple of flash lights for when we
create the accident scene. We will also need School bags for going round
college. We will need tooth brush, tooth paste and aftershave to put in the
bathroom. Finally we will need posters, a frame with a picture of Michael and
Cal in, a lamp, a computer, books and bed decor o decorate the bedroom.
Lighting-We will have bright high key lighting to se the expression of the
actors faces during the day. When The flashback happens, everything will start
to have a much lower key of lighting to create shadows and tension.
Costume/makeup- The characters will be wearing simple cloths of jeans,
hoodies and t-shirts to show that college is really casual to them. Girls hair will
be down with basic plain make up no jazzy eye make up just simple stuff. Boys
hair will just have a bit of wax in it.
9. Genre conventions?
In the psychological thriller their tends to be lots of close ups and
medium shots so you don’t see too much of what's going on.
However they do throw in the occasional wide shot to convey if
something's following them for example or something is hidden but
they want the audience to look for it. There tends to be lots of point
of view shots in psychological thriller as you tend to see from the
main characters perspective.
Included in our film?
The camerawork we are going to use in our opening is going to be a
large variety. We want to show loads of different skills therefore we
are going to have loads of different shots, angles and movements.
The key camera work we are going to use are point of view shots,
close ups, wide shots, medium shots and pan movement. I think
with these as are main plus the variety of others, our opening will
be really good as it will have loads of different perspectives.
10. Diegetic?
In our scripts we have decided to have a bit of dialogue to
help show what’s going on and the relations between
characters. We have also decided to add in sound effects to
enhance certain noses. It would have to be discrete so that the
audience don’t notice but it would bring the film to life more.
Non- Diegetic?
We haven't quite decided if we are going to have a voice over
or not. But we are defiantly going to have some sad and tense
music to bring certain scenes to life. We was looking at
adding sad music to the scene where we see Michael all alone.
The tense music would be played in the car accident and
when we keep seeing Cal through the mind of Michael
11. Editing, sound and effects?
We are going to include lots of different editing
techniques but we do want our editing to be continuity
editing so that the audience don’t recognise it. We will be
including a variety of transitions like fade and dissolve
but the main transition we will use will be straight cut
because that’s the most realistic transition. We will also
be adding sound effects to enhance actions and to bring
it to life. For example we will need to add sound effects
when the car runs over Cal as we are not physically
seeing that. Finally we will need to add things like filters
to give it that thriller element. We will probably use
desaturation to bring it to life and make it seem more
realistic.
12. Which films and opening sequences have influenced you
and why?
The film influenced our group the most is shutter island,
reason being is in this thriller it fully throws off the audience
from the beginning as they make out that both of the main
characters are fully sane however then when watching the
entire film you begin to reason that one of them mentally
broken. This it influenced our group massively as the
audience may be failed to thinking that there is nothing
wrong with Michael and that he is just hurt by what's going
on, they will then come to realise that Michael can see his
dead brother and not because he's a ghost but because he's in
his head and he's not actually there.
