 I will be producing/formatting a popular music based Music Magazine
which will have a variety of double page spreads which will be
conventional despite taking inspiration from Clash Music Magazine. In
addition to this, the front covers have been inspired from Clash Music
Magazine in terms of the house style and colour scheme which is very
representative in my front cover and double page spread e.g. drop
capital.
 The working title for the Music Magazine that I am looking to launch is
Smash Music Magazine, although the name for the proposal might
change and this is mainly dependent on the primary research which is
done through the form of Survey Monkey. Furthermore the colour &
house style has been mainly inspired by Clash Music Magazine as I feel
there is a gap in the market, plus I want to bring the escapism and
enjoyment back to popular based Music Magazine. In addition to this,
the format would normally be inspired by Clash Music Magazine, but
unfortunately due to the fact that Clash Music Magazine is a very
unconventional magazine I was forced to take format inspiration from
conventional music magazines such as Q, NME, & Kerrang.
1ST PROPOSAL
 The main genre for our Music Magazine “Smash” is a popular music
genre based magazine and is mainly inspired by Magazines such as
“Clash” & “Smash Hits” who are no longer in existence. The core of our
magazine was inspired by them e.g. Mood Boards, Front Cover, Double
Page Spread Designs. However due to the fact that Clash is a very
unconventional music magazine, I was forced to look at NME, Mojo, &
Kerrang in order to aspire to have conventions that are in
similarity/same as their Front Cover & Double Page Spread.
 The name of my Music Magazine is called “Smash” and what I am
looking to bring to the potential audience is a remake of “Smash Hits”
in the sense that there will be content surrounding huge music stars
and domestically big stars which for our Music Magazine will be known
as chief support in order to help boost the sales for our Music
Magazine. This will further broaden and enhance our consumer total as
more and more fans from the domestic fans will be intrigued & enticed
into our Music Magazine as a result of this. The theory of star appeal is
very much evident in our Music Magazine for the reason that in our very
first issue, we are utilizing Eminem as the face of our Music Magazine
and we feel that this is a massive draw and therefore will pull in
various amounts of fans who will want to read this feature on Eminem.
1ST PROPOSAL
 The main colours that will be utilized for this particular music
magazine will be pink & white as they are the similar colours to
our chosen magazine of inspiration which is Clash Music
Magazine. The colours will be consisted in terms of their style &
what I mean by this is that the format of the colours will remain
the same throughout the front cover and double page spread.
The music magazine that we are producing will take main
inspiration from Clash Music Magazine in which we will take the
inspiration based on the colour/font style and the utilization of
imagery on the front cover & double page spread. This is
essentially important as we need to field a certain level of
consistency in order to match the local demographic. The main
software that we will be utilizing will be Adobe Photoshop CSS.1
and this is very useful when you want to add and tweak designs
that you have planned to create before using Photoshop and this
can be anything from the copy aspect of your double page spread
to your cover lines of your front cover.
1ST PROPOSAL
 The demographic or the audience which is more commonly known as can
be considered as one of or even the most important aspect for a music
magazine to succeed as customer sales & sales in general is based on the
viewership. The age of our music magazine “Clash Music Magazine” will be
around 17-30 and this is evident through the primary and secondary
research we have taken upon ourselves through the use of Survey Monkey
& research we accomplished also. Furthermore, our music magazine will be
viable to both genders and what I mean by this is that we are trying to
create an image where it won’t be considered weird for both genders to buy
one magazine. In relation to the socio economic needs table, we will be
utilizing the C2 & D class category which will hopefully further promote
customer sales for our music magazine as the C2 category mainly contains
students who may be interested in music, & the D category mainly contains
men and women just starting jobs who also may be interested in music and
our music magazine provides the perfect service that C2 & D from the
socio economic needs are looking for. Our music magazine only covers a
genre which is pop but thankfully that genre is viable for all races to
purchase our magazine as we don’t want to have a divide between the
certain ethnicity groups on potentially who should and should not be
purchasing a copy of our music magazine.
1ST PROPOSAL
 I plan to have 30 pages on this music magazine which
includes both the front and back pages, we also plan to have
these pages in print for A4 in terms of the size and the
justification behind this is that normal magazines have more
pages than I am planning to include within our music
magazine which may create a higher demand for our music
magazine which gives us the edge over our competitors.
 Our music magazine “Clash” provides a weekly common yet
useful service in which provides a good amount of detail on a
weekly service in which you might not see from our
competitors. The magazine will cost £2.10 per week which
enables the potential customers to have an solid service for a
little price which yet again gives us an edge over our domestic
competitors.

2ND PROPOSAL
 As you can see, both titles for both ideas are called “Smash &
The News of Music”. The first idea I will be talking about is
“Smash” which connotes what our ethos is all about and that
is the development that we are looking to make over the next
few months. The word smash connotes that you seek and
destroy what you have in sight, for example we chose Smash
as our first idea as it exemplifies what we want to do to our
target market.
CONNOTATIONS BEHIND TITLES FOR 1ST
IDEA
 The second name we have come up with for our second idea is
“The News of Music”, this therefore connotes what our music
magazine about as it grants the customers with the latest
updates and news within the music industry. For example
some of the pages that we cover will be based around some
news that is floating around the music industry such as
upcoming albums and singles in the near future.
CONNOTATIONS BEHIND TITLE FOR 2ND
IDEA
HAND DRAWN & ARTICLE DRAFTS
HAND DRAWN & ARTICLE DRAFTS
HAND DRAWN & ARTICLE DRAFTS
HAND DRAWN & ARTICLE DRAFTS
GRAPHIC LAYOUT (FRONT COVER)
1ST IDEA
The Masthead is displayed as the main thin bar at the top of the image below, the masthead needs
to be kept simple as it is a very conventional and therefore essential aspect of the front cover of any
music magazine. This is very important as we want the Masthead to be recognisable to the
customers so that they might be intrigued by the conventionalism from our magazine of inspiration
“Clash”
The main Front Cover Image
foreshadows the content for the rest of
this music magazine and that sets out
what kind of artists and what kind of
genre is put out throughout the latest
addition of this music magazine.
Additionally, the Front Cover Image
gives the customers a moment to take
in and understand what the picture
might foreshadow what content is to
come later in this debut issue of our
music magazine.
The Cover Lines are
normally
considered as an
important aspect,
and therefore the
cover lines will be
placed onto this
text box and this
will help to promote
our music
magazine to fans of
the artists who are
the cover lines.
GRAPHIC LAYOUT (FRONT COVER)
1ST IDEA
The colour pink as I have stated in the House
Style is consistent throughout our music
magazine pages whether that would be front
cover or double page spread. Furthermore the
colour pink is constant in not only the house
style but also the font style which makes this
music magazine a conventional magazine in
relevance to their competitors. This thin white
bar states a world exclusive for the music star
who features for our music magazine whether
that be Eminem, or another music superstar
such as Ed Sheeran. This again is
exceptionally important
GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DPS 1ST IDEA
 Within a graphic layout of my
Front Cover & Double Page
Spread there are a various
amount of conventions which
we have within these graphic
layouts. First and foremost,
Captions are an essential
part of a double page spread
of a printed publication,
furthermore Captions are
the description of the images
which are below. These are
very important as it is known
to be conventional when
doing so in order to be on a
level par with competing
magazines such as Clash,
NME, & Mojo.
Among many conventions, many consider the
Masthead to be one of the most essential conventions
which mainly boils down to the pure significance of this
convention as without a Masthead you might as well
not even publish your magazine as the Masthead is the
first thing that the customer sees.
GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DPS 1ST IDEA
 Moving on, the Main
Image is very important
as well as it may connote
to the reader a particular
tone for the rest of double
page spread interviews.
Additionally, the Main
Image is there to lure
the customer in and
intrigue them to read on,
an example of this would
be if the image was of a
BIG music star and
therefore the star appeal
would then lure the
customers in. This would
not only lure the local
demographic/intended
target audience in, it would
also lure fans of that
particular music star who
might not be interested in
our magazine but rather in
that DPS.
The Text itself could connote something different to the
reader in hand and therefore it is very important for us to get
this right so we do not come across to arrogant in the sense
that the fans might get the impression that we have upset
them or the big music star that they idolise.
GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF FRONT COVER 2ND
IDEA
The slogan is considered as an important
aspect of any Front Cover of a music
magazine as this may lure the customer in.
In addition to this, the slogans are normally
word by word what I mean by this is that it
may be something like “Live For This” this
will catch the eye of the reader which could
lead into the customer buying this music
magazine.
The cover lines are as well considered as
important as they are recognised as chief
support for any music magazines. This is
important as the customer needs to know
who else the magazine will be covering
throughout the Double Page articles as well.
GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF FRONT COVER 2ND
IDEA
The main image is very important as it is
the image of the music star who is the
main feature on your music magazine, we
would need this main image to be very
formal in the sense that the picture is not
out of position to make sure that our music
magazine looks very professional.
The masthead is therefore maybe the most
dependable convention of a music
magazine as the first thing usually a
customer sees when picking up a music
magazine is the Masthead. As a result of
this we will need to make our masthead
very noticeable and eye catching for
example making the masthead bold and
colourful could be one possibility.
GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD 2ND IDEA
The interview is a big part of
what makes a DPS at a solid
standard in the sense that the
questions need to suit the
artists requirements. For
example someone like Eminem
we would need to field jovial
questions to see if he has a
playful and comical side to him
and we want to show the
customers that hopefully,
however we need to stay serious
at some parts in the interview.
GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD 2ND IDEA
The masthead within this DPS is
very important as in similarity
with the Front Cover in the
sense that people may judge
the content of your magazine
before they have ready when
they see your masthead. As a
result of this, we need to make
the masthead bold so people
know what our magazine is
called within the first few
seconds that they view our
magazine.
COLOUR SCHEME FOR 1ST IDEA
 The 4 squares below this text are a combination of colours of inspiration
from Clash Magazine & some colours which we would like to implement
into our own music magazine. The colours that are from our magazine of
inspiration “Clash Music Magazine “ which demonstrate a level of
consistency in the sense that the colours being idolised by us referring to
Clash Music Magazine & these colours are the Orange & Yellow which are
used for conventions such as Masthead & Cover Lines.
 Additionally, the Red & Pink colours were selected as a result of market
research in which members of the public gave their answers to questions
such as “What does this colour represent to you?” in which their answers
are analysed by us and then we made the last decision to utilize these
colours.
COLOUR SCHEME FOR 2ND IDEA
 The 4 colours which you can see towards the bottom view of this slide
connote what colours we took from inspiration from the magazine, Clash.
We felt that Clash had some fantastic colours to not only fit their house
style but also their demographic which was 15-24 which is also our
demographic.
 In addition to this, the Blue will most likely be used for our Front Cover
and this will be highlighted throughout the rest of Double Page Spreads
and the other articles. However colours such as Orange, White & Red can
be used either on the Front Cover & Double Page Spread for conventions
such as Puff Promotions, Pull Out Quote & needing some of the colours to
separate the question and answers for our Double Page Spread interview.
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST
IDEA)
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST
IDEA)
 The socio economic needs category that we will be used for my 1st
idea will be category D.
 Social Need D is one of the two social needs that my intended
target audience will be used for my music magazine, the base of
Social Need D are unskilled manual workers who will want to
expand their knowledge on music. We chose this predominantly in
order to gain mass number of views as they are thousands upon
thousands of music students in the UK.
 As you can see, I have only chosen one category and this is solely
down to the mass number of students who would buy our music
magazine which may be due to their interest, or to further enhance
their knowledge.
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST
IDEA)
 Definition: Psychographic segmentation can be defined as when you
divide the market into groups based on social class, lifestyle and
personality characteristics. It also can be based on the assumption
that the types of products and brands an individual purchases will
reflect that persons characteristics and patterns of living.
 The spending power of the reader in terms of the cost of our music
could be dependent on the sales we make per week, per month or
even per year.
 Therefore, we will need to set the price right and we know we have
got the price bang on right as we carried out primary research to
find this.
 Spending power can prove to be significant for us as customers may
feel less inclined to purchase our music magazine if they feel that
the prices of our magazines are an anomaly in contrast to similar
genre based music magazines.
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST
IDEA)
 Hartley's 7 subjectivities are as follows: Age, Gender,
Class, Ethnicity. Self-Image, Nation & Family.
 Firstly the age range of our music magazine will be
determined by our music magazine of inspiration
which is Clash Music Magazine, If we failed to do this
it could be potentially damaging as we would produce
very minor sales.
 Secondly the gender of my magazine will openly be
buyable for both male and female students, as we
need to broaden our intended target audience as far
as possible in order to produce mass sales.
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND
IDEA)
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND
IDEA)
 The socio economic needs group in which I have chosen for the
second idea is B & A.
 We have chosen based on the magazine of inspiration that is MOJO
in the sense that they surround their magazine over customers who
are wealthy and can afford the type of products that MOJO also
advertise in their magazine. Therefore we want a certain
demographic that have a disposable income and therefore have
high salaries.
 As you can see, I have chosen a combination of two socio economic
needs categories which can bring in a mass amount of customer
sales due to the fact that more customers would be involved as a
result of the combination in which we have selected to target.
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND
IDEA)
 Definition: Psychographic segmentation can be defined as when
you divide the market into groups based on social class,
lifestyle and personality characteristics. It also can be based on
the assumption that the types of products and brands an
individual purchases will reflect that persons characteristics
and patterns of living.
 The spending power in terms of who we are targeting for, in the
sense that our demographic of high salary earners will have the
financial ability to buy more than 1 issue of our music magazine
whether that be for their friends or family.
 Therefore we need to set this price right in order to gain the
income that we would like to.
INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND
IDEA)

 Hartley's 7 subjectivities are as follows: Age, Gender,
Class, Ethnicity. Self-Image, Nation & Family.
 Firstly the age range of our music magazine will be
determined by our music magazine of inspiration
which is MOJO, we have taken aspects from our
magazine inspiration such as the Age that MOJO use
to identify their content and tweaked it to fit our
ethos
 The gender for this 2nd idea of a music magazine will
mainly be male and this is because we want to follow
MOJO in the sense that they have 74.1% male
readers.

We will be using the National
Search Engine Optimization as it
is a relatively low cost in contrast
to the other advertising &
marketing strategies. This will
gain views as when casual music
fans search for “popular music
genre magazines in the uk”, we
will be the first on the list when
people do this. Another reason on
why we have chosen to do this is
because in this modern day and
age, the general public and
especially teenagers use the
internet as their source of
information.

SOURCES OF INCOME
 The main source of income which will be compatible for Clash
will be the advertising that we gain from sponsors from music
festivals, music tours and events anything related to music.
 Source: http://www.businessvans.co.uk/much-will-van-
signwriting-cost/
 Furthermore, in terms of getting our name about we are eager to
team up with White Eagle Distribution in order for them to
sponsor our magazine on their Van and this would cost between
£750-£1250, and we think this is a terrific offer that they have
presented towards us and we are more than willing to accept.
SOCIAL MEDIA
As you can see from these photos, these are from one of our social media sites Instagram
which will increase our mass audience in order to increase the sales of our music
magazine. In addition to this, even though not all of the images we have posted have likes
we are willing to stick at it as we know already the mass celebrity appeal is evident in the
likes from our first ever post as you can see from the bottom left and we can post anything
to do with the magazine so we are very excited about this.

  • 6.  I will be producing/formatting a popular music based Music Magazine which will have a variety of double page spreads which will be conventional despite taking inspiration from Clash Music Magazine. In addition to this, the front covers have been inspired from Clash Music Magazine in terms of the house style and colour scheme which is very representative in my front cover and double page spread e.g. drop capital.  The working title for the Music Magazine that I am looking to launch is Smash Music Magazine, although the name for the proposal might change and this is mainly dependent on the primary research which is done through the form of Survey Monkey. Furthermore the colour & house style has been mainly inspired by Clash Music Magazine as I feel there is a gap in the market, plus I want to bring the escapism and enjoyment back to popular based Music Magazine. In addition to this, the format would normally be inspired by Clash Music Magazine, but unfortunately due to the fact that Clash Music Magazine is a very unconventional magazine I was forced to take format inspiration from conventional music magazines such as Q, NME, & Kerrang. 1ST PROPOSAL
  • 7.  The main genre for our Music Magazine “Smash” is a popular music genre based magazine and is mainly inspired by Magazines such as “Clash” & “Smash Hits” who are no longer in existence. The core of our magazine was inspired by them e.g. Mood Boards, Front Cover, Double Page Spread Designs. However due to the fact that Clash is a very unconventional music magazine, I was forced to look at NME, Mojo, & Kerrang in order to aspire to have conventions that are in similarity/same as their Front Cover & Double Page Spread.  The name of my Music Magazine is called “Smash” and what I am looking to bring to the potential audience is a remake of “Smash Hits” in the sense that there will be content surrounding huge music stars and domestically big stars which for our Music Magazine will be known as chief support in order to help boost the sales for our Music Magazine. This will further broaden and enhance our consumer total as more and more fans from the domestic fans will be intrigued & enticed into our Music Magazine as a result of this. The theory of star appeal is very much evident in our Music Magazine for the reason that in our very first issue, we are utilizing Eminem as the face of our Music Magazine and we feel that this is a massive draw and therefore will pull in various amounts of fans who will want to read this feature on Eminem. 1ST PROPOSAL
  • 8.  The main colours that will be utilized for this particular music magazine will be pink & white as they are the similar colours to our chosen magazine of inspiration which is Clash Music Magazine. The colours will be consisted in terms of their style & what I mean by this is that the format of the colours will remain the same throughout the front cover and double page spread. The music magazine that we are producing will take main inspiration from Clash Music Magazine in which we will take the inspiration based on the colour/font style and the utilization of imagery on the front cover & double page spread. This is essentially important as we need to field a certain level of consistency in order to match the local demographic. The main software that we will be utilizing will be Adobe Photoshop CSS.1 and this is very useful when you want to add and tweak designs that you have planned to create before using Photoshop and this can be anything from the copy aspect of your double page spread to your cover lines of your front cover. 1ST PROPOSAL
  • 9.  The demographic or the audience which is more commonly known as can be considered as one of or even the most important aspect for a music magazine to succeed as customer sales & sales in general is based on the viewership. The age of our music magazine “Clash Music Magazine” will be around 17-30 and this is evident through the primary and secondary research we have taken upon ourselves through the use of Survey Monkey & research we accomplished also. Furthermore, our music magazine will be viable to both genders and what I mean by this is that we are trying to create an image where it won’t be considered weird for both genders to buy one magazine. In relation to the socio economic needs table, we will be utilizing the C2 & D class category which will hopefully further promote customer sales for our music magazine as the C2 category mainly contains students who may be interested in music, & the D category mainly contains men and women just starting jobs who also may be interested in music and our music magazine provides the perfect service that C2 & D from the socio economic needs are looking for. Our music magazine only covers a genre which is pop but thankfully that genre is viable for all races to purchase our magazine as we don’t want to have a divide between the certain ethnicity groups on potentially who should and should not be purchasing a copy of our music magazine. 1ST PROPOSAL
  • 10.  I plan to have 30 pages on this music magazine which includes both the front and back pages, we also plan to have these pages in print for A4 in terms of the size and the justification behind this is that normal magazines have more pages than I am planning to include within our music magazine which may create a higher demand for our music magazine which gives us the edge over our competitors.  Our music magazine “Clash” provides a weekly common yet useful service in which provides a good amount of detail on a weekly service in which you might not see from our competitors. The magazine will cost £2.10 per week which enables the potential customers to have an solid service for a little price which yet again gives us an edge over our domestic competitors. 1ST PROPOSAL
  • 11.  I will be producing/formatting a popular music based Music Magazine which will have a variety of double page spreads which will be conventional despite taking inspiration from The News of Music Magazine. In addition to this, the front covers have been inspired from The News of Music Magazine in terms of the house style and colour scheme which is very representative in my front cover and double page spread e.g. drop capital.  The working title for the Music Magazine that I am looking to launch is The News of Music Magazine, although the name for the proposal might change and this is mainly dependent on the primary research which is done through the form of Survey Monkey. The main software that we will be utilizing will be Adobe Photoshop CSS.1 and this is very useful when you want to add and tweak designs that you have planned to create before using Photoshop and this can be anything from the copy aspect of your double page spread to your cover lines of your front cover. 2ND PROPOSAL
  • 14.  The demographic or the audience which is more commonly known as can be considered as one of or even the most important aspect for a music magazine to succeed as customer sales & sales in general is based on the viewership. The age of our music magazine “The News of Music Magazine” will be around 17-30 and this is evident through the primary and secondary research we have taken upon ourselves through the use of Survey Monkey & research we accomplished also. 2ND PROPOSAL
  • 15.  Our music magazine “The News of Music Magazine” provides a weekly common yet useful service in which provides a good amount of detail on a weekly service in which you might not see from our competitors. The magazine will cost £2.10 per week which enables the potential customers to have an solid service for a little price which yet again gives us an edge over our domestic competitors. 2ND PROPOSAL
  • 16.  As you can see, both titles for both ideas are called “Smash & The News of Music”. The first idea I will be talking about is “Smash” which connotes what our ethos is all about and that is the development that we are looking to make over the next few months. The word smash connotes that you seek and destroy what you have in sight, for example we chose Smash as our first idea as it exemplifies what we want to do to our target market. CONNOTATIONS BEHIND TITLES FOR 1ST IDEA
  • 17.  The second name we have come up with for our second idea is “The News of Music”, this therefore connotes what our music magazine about as it grants the customers with the latest updates and news within the music industry. For example some of the pages that we cover will be based around some news that is floating around the music industry such as upcoming albums and singles in the near future. CONNOTATIONS BEHIND TITLE FOR 2ND IDEA

  • 22. GRAPHIC LAYOUT (FRONT COVER) 1ST IDEA The Masthead is displayed as the main thin bar at the top of the image below, the masthead needs to be kept simple as it is a very conventional and therefore essential aspect of the front cover of any music magazine. This is very important as we want the Masthead to be recognisable to the customers so that they might be intrigued by the conventionalism from our magazine of inspiration “Clash” The main Front Cover Image foreshadows the content for the rest of this music magazine and that sets out what kind of artists and what kind of genre is put out throughout the latest addition of this music magazine. Additionally, the Front Cover Image gives the customers a moment to take in and understand what the picture might foreshadow what content is to come later in this debut issue of our music magazine. The Cover Lines are normally considered as an important aspect, and therefore the cover lines will be placed onto this text box and this will help to promote our music magazine to fans of the artists who are the cover lines.
  • 23. GRAPHIC LAYOUT (FRONT COVER) 1ST IDEA The colour pink as I have stated in the House Style is consistent throughout our music magazine pages whether that would be front cover or double page spread. Furthermore the colour pink is constant in not only the house style but also the font style which makes this music magazine a conventional magazine in relevance to their competitors. This thin white bar states a world exclusive for the music star who features for our music magazine whether that be Eminem, or another music superstar such as Ed Sheeran. This again is exceptionally important
  • 24. GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DPS 1ST IDEA  Within a graphic layout of my Front Cover & Double Page Spread there are a various amount of conventions which we have within these graphic layouts. First and foremost, Captions are an essential part of a double page spread of a printed publication, furthermore Captions are the description of the images which are below. These are very important as it is known to be conventional when doing so in order to be on a level par with competing magazines such as Clash, NME, & Mojo. Among many conventions, many consider the Masthead to be one of the most essential conventions which mainly boils down to the pure significance of this convention as without a Masthead you might as well not even publish your magazine as the Masthead is the first thing that the customer sees.
  • 25. GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DPS 1ST IDEA  Moving on, the Main Image is very important as well as it may connote to the reader a particular tone for the rest of double page spread interviews. Additionally, the Main Image is there to lure the customer in and intrigue them to read on, an example of this would be if the image was of a BIG music star and therefore the star appeal would then lure the customers in. This would not only lure the local demographic/intended target audience in, it would also lure fans of that particular music star who might not be interested in our magazine but rather in that DPS. The Text itself could connote something different to the reader in hand and therefore it is very important for us to get this right so we do not come across to arrogant in the sense that the fans might get the impression that we have upset them or the big music star that they idolise.
  • 26. GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF FRONT COVER 2ND IDEA The slogan is considered as an important aspect of any Front Cover of a music magazine as this may lure the customer in. In addition to this, the slogans are normally word by word what I mean by this is that it may be something like “Live For This” this will catch the eye of the reader which could lead into the customer buying this music magazine. The cover lines are as well considered as important as they are recognised as chief support for any music magazines. This is important as the customer needs to know who else the magazine will be covering throughout the Double Page articles as well.
  • 27. GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF FRONT COVER 2ND IDEA The main image is very important as it is the image of the music star who is the main feature on your music magazine, we would need this main image to be very formal in the sense that the picture is not out of position to make sure that our music magazine looks very professional. The masthead is therefore maybe the most dependable convention of a music magazine as the first thing usually a customer sees when picking up a music magazine is the Masthead. As a result of this we will need to make our masthead very noticeable and eye catching for example making the masthead bold and colourful could be one possibility.
  • 28. GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD 2ND IDEA The interview is a big part of what makes a DPS at a solid standard in the sense that the questions need to suit the artists requirements. For example someone like Eminem we would need to field jovial questions to see if he has a playful and comical side to him and we want to show the customers that hopefully, however we need to stay serious at some parts in the interview.
  • 29. GRAPHIC LAYOUT OF DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD 2ND IDEA The masthead within this DPS is very important as in similarity with the Front Cover in the sense that people may judge the content of your magazine before they have ready when they see your masthead. As a result of this, we need to make the masthead bold so people know what our magazine is called within the first few seconds that they view our magazine.
  • 30. COLOUR SCHEME FOR 1ST IDEA  The 4 squares below this text are a combination of colours of inspiration from Clash Magazine & some colours which we would like to implement into our own music magazine. The colours that are from our magazine of inspiration “Clash Music Magazine “ which demonstrate a level of consistency in the sense that the colours being idolised by us referring to Clash Music Magazine & these colours are the Orange & Yellow which are used for conventions such as Masthead & Cover Lines.  Additionally, the Red & Pink colours were selected as a result of market research in which members of the public gave their answers to questions such as “What does this colour represent to you?” in which their answers are analysed by us and then we made the last decision to utilize these colours.
  • 31. COLOUR SCHEME FOR 2ND IDEA  The 4 colours which you can see towards the bottom view of this slide connote what colours we took from inspiration from the magazine, Clash. We felt that Clash had some fantastic colours to not only fit their house style but also their demographic which was 15-24 which is also our demographic.  In addition to this, the Blue will most likely be used for our Front Cover and this will be highlighted throughout the rest of Double Page Spreads and the other articles. However colours such as Orange, White & Red can be used either on the Front Cover & Double Page Spread for conventions such as Puff Promotions, Pull Out Quote & needing some of the colours to separate the question and answers for our Double Page Spread interview.
  • 33. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST IDEA)  The socio economic needs category that we will be used for my 1st idea will be category D.  Social Need D is one of the two social needs that my intended target audience will be used for my music magazine, the base of Social Need D are unskilled manual workers who will want to expand their knowledge on music. We chose this predominantly in order to gain mass number of views as they are thousands upon thousands of music students in the UK.  As you can see, I have only chosen one category and this is solely down to the mass number of students who would buy our music magazine which may be due to their interest, or to further enhance their knowledge.
  • 34. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST IDEA)  Definition: Psychographic segmentation can be defined as when you divide the market into groups based on social class, lifestyle and personality characteristics. It also can be based on the assumption that the types of products and brands an individual purchases will reflect that persons characteristics and patterns of living.  The spending power of the reader in terms of the cost of our music could be dependent on the sales we make per week, per month or even per year.  Therefore, we will need to set the price right and we know we have got the price bang on right as we carried out primary research to find this.  Spending power can prove to be significant for us as customers may feel less inclined to purchase our music magazine if they feel that the prices of our magazines are an anomaly in contrast to similar genre based music magazines.
  • 35. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (1ST IDEA)  Hartley's 7 subjectivities are as follows: Age, Gender, Class, Ethnicity. Self-Image, Nation & Family.  Firstly the age range of our music magazine will be determined by our music magazine of inspiration which is Clash Music Magazine, If we failed to do this it could be potentially damaging as we would produce very minor sales.  Secondly the gender of my magazine will openly be buyable for both male and female students, as we need to broaden our intended target audience as far as possible in order to produce mass sales.
  • 37. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND IDEA)  The socio economic needs group in which I have chosen for the second idea is B & A.  We have chosen based on the magazine of inspiration that is MOJO in the sense that they surround their magazine over customers who are wealthy and can afford the type of products that MOJO also advertise in their magazine. Therefore we want a certain demographic that have a disposable income and therefore have high salaries.  As you can see, I have chosen a combination of two socio economic needs categories which can bring in a mass amount of customer sales due to the fact that more customers would be involved as a result of the combination in which we have selected to target.
  • 38. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND IDEA)  Definition: Psychographic segmentation can be defined as when you divide the market into groups based on social class, lifestyle and personality characteristics. It also can be based on the assumption that the types of products and brands an individual purchases will reflect that persons characteristics and patterns of living.  The spending power in terms of who we are targeting for, in the sense that our demographic of high salary earners will have the financial ability to buy more than 1 issue of our music magazine whether that be for their friends or family.  Therefore we need to set this price right in order to gain the income that we would like to.
  • 39. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE (2ND IDEA)  Source: http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/uploads/Mojo- Feb2013a.pdf  Hartley's 7 subjectivities are as follows: Age, Gender, Class, Ethnicity. Self-Image, Nation & Family.  Firstly the age range of our music magazine will be determined by our music magazine of inspiration which is MOJO, we have taken aspects from our magazine inspiration such as the Age that MOJO use to identify their content and tweaked it to fit our ethos  The gender for this 2nd idea of a music magazine will mainly be male and this is because we want to follow MOJO in the sense that they have 74.1% male readers.

This will gain views as when casual music fans search for “popular music genre magazines in the uk”, we will be the first on the list when people do this. Another reason on why we have chosen to do this is because in this modern day and age, the general public and especially teenagers use the internet as their source of information.
