The Education System in Pakistan— An
Overview of the Current Situation
The education system in Pakistan faces many challenges, including low
literacy rates, high dropout rates, and a shortage of qualified teachers.
These problems affect students in all grades, from preschool through
college.
Why Is There Such A Lack Of Quality Teachers In Pakistan?
One of the reasons for the lack of quality teachers in Pakistan is the
lack of training opportunities for new teachers. Many schools do not
offer teacher education programs, so when people apply to teach at
these schools, they often get jobs without any formal training.
The teachers in Madaris mainly follow the traditional system where the
teacher is the source of information and the student is expected to
reproduce the learned content without any additions or deletions — a
rote learning or content memorization system is followed.
Without a uniform curriculum for the three systems, we see three
different classes being prepared. Each system provides education in
isolation from the other with no apparent connection or
commonalities, however, one common ground, when viewed broadly,
is that teachers exist in the three systems. And the second thing in
common is the teaching of books on Islam and Urdu by the respective
textbook boards in all three types of institutions. Some Madaris also
teach social studies and mathematics up to class ten.
In the words of William Arthur Ward “teaching is more than imparting
information, it is inspiring trade. Learning is more than absorbing
facts, it is gaining understanding.”
A teacher can make or break a child — that should come first.
Supportive teaching depends on many factors, the most important of
which is a teacher who imparts knowledge with inspiration.
Are Students Learning Enough?
In addition to having too few qualified teachers, students face other
problems with the current education system. According to UNESCO,
only one-third of children attend school regularly. This means that
many children are unable to learn effectively due to skipping classes.
Another problem is that many children leave school before completing
primary education.
As a result, the schools are not enough to cater to the ever-growing
student population in Pakistan. According to IPRI, the total number of
institutions in the education system is 260,903, helping/facilitating a
total of 41,018,384 students. The total number of teachers involved in
this process is 1,535,461. Moreover, these statistics point to one of the
main weaknesses of our system, which is the significant difference
between the ratio of teachers and students. There is a significant
increase in teachers who, however, are unable to meet the demands of
students.
To sum it up, the curriculum taught in our instructional institutes is
outdated. It has no practical meaning that students can use after
graduation. It does not address the local needs of Pakistani society at
large. Moreover, the knowledge that our previous generations were
taught is currently being taught to our current generation. Cramming
is a method through which students are forced to grasp science
concepts rather than activity-based learning. These methods are
meaningless to modern society.
Why accomplish that Many children Drop Out Of faculty?
There are several reasons why so many children drop out of school.
One of the reasons is that parents often do not send their children to
school because they cannot afford to pay the school fees. Another
reason is that some families believe that sending children to school will
make them lazy.
A bad influence on children is the most common reason for children
leaving school.
Early or unrestricted exposure to alcohol, drugs, the Internet, and
television can distract children from pursuing academics and lead
them instead to antisocial activities.
What Can Be Done To Fix This Problem?
In order to improve the situation, there must be an improvement in the
quality of education provided by the government. It is also necessary to
provide better facilities for students who attend private schools.
parents ought to additionally inspire their kids to head to school.
It is necessary to implement the national educational vision and
educational goals by 2020.
First of all, it is necessary to check what are the weaknesses of the
national educational policy 2018–2019 and why we are not able to
implement it in the true sense of the word. word.
If we have implemented the previous policies, then what are the
reasons why we are still lagging behind in the education sector? We
need to find a solution and implement it in all the provinces of
Pakistan simultaneously.
Practically, there are several flaws in our plans, although an analysis of
education policy clearly shows that there are some admirable proposals
at the policy stage.
But how to implement these great tips? There is a basic thing, is our
bureaucracy ready to follow these steps to improve the
Pakistani education system? This is a point we need to analyze before
the new budget is approved. We have to fully embrace our bureaucracy
because they are the officials who will see things practically.
Why is the Education System in Pakistan Under Pressure?
There are many reasons why the education system in Pakistan is under
pressure. One of the main problems is the lack of qualified teachers.
This has led to a shortage of teaching staff in both public and private
schools. Another problem is the low literacy rate of adults. This means
people don’t read books or newspapers so they can’t learn new things.
Economic costs are higher in private schools, but these are only found
in wealthier settlements. The paradox is that private schools are better,
but not everywhere, and state schools provide fair access but do not
provide quality education. This affects a lot of the Education System in
Pakistan.
